The other week I broke my 9'6" longboard. I bought the board off of Craigslist and had the local dingguy fix it up. I probably spent $300(100 on the board 200 on repairs) total to get the board water tight. It's a 1980's ron jon board. So it's nothing too special but was fun to ride. I was hoping I could get some opinions on what I should do. Here's some options I thought of so far. 1. Pay to fix it up. 2. Pay to have the top 6' shaped into a fish or egg. 3. Sell the broken board cheap and put the money towards a new log. 4. Make lawn ornament out of it and save for a new log.
looks like you've got enough of a serviceable front end to make something fun to ride out of. i say do that. a mini-sim out of that would be awesome, i bet. strip the glass, shape in a new bottom contour, drop some plugs in (i say go quad) & glass it up!
Its not worth it paying someone to reshape it. Either reshape it yourself or just save up for a new one
Agreed. Looks like you have enough left to work with. Try and make something from it. If nothing else you will gain some experience with the tools/materials. Then, you will have the knowhow to do your own ding repairs. Good luck.
Cool. Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try may hand at making something new. I would like to learn some shaping skills. At the minimal I could patch it up to make a frankensimmons.
Make it into something new, or use the shape as a template and go to Greenlight to make a whole new longboard. I broke my board 50/50 - so I'm saving my bucks for the Greenlight plan...
I broke it on Wednesday Sept 5th down around Bradley Beach. That was maybe the second day of the swell. Yeah, $200 was a little more than a I wanted to pay to fix it up. The board was in pretty bad shape when I bought it. One of the rails needed a lot work and there was a bunch of dings. I probably threw good money after bad. I let the idea of "saving an old board" blind me to the fact that I was spending too much to fix it. When I was talking to the wife last night she reminded me that I have "better" ways to spend my free time(working on the house, mowing the lawn, or spending time with the baby) than playing a broken board. So we'll see where this project goes.
Try making another board out of the longer half. With the shorter end, maybe cut out a "shark bite" in it and hang it up somewhere haha
