Do not buy hyperflex products - they do not stand behind them

I have a hyperflex 3/2 and a 2/2 short sleeve. The suits aren't top notch quality, but that should be expected.

My 3/2was giving me a rash on my back shoulder blade on the spot where 3 seams came together(yes, the suit was sized properly.).. I emailed hyperflex, and within a week had a new suit come in. My 2/2 after almost 2 years had one of the seams taping on the leg start coming off, sent it out, got the suit back in 4 days turn around from initial ship date.. I smell BS that you are saying they offered zero help for you.

 

If the OP wanted to generate some discussion of Hyperflex suits he did a good job. Remember any publicity is better than no publicity

I've been wearing Hyperflex the last 7 years for the price you can't beat it. If you want to pay $500 + for an Oneil by all means go ahead but Hyperflex NJ keeps me warm in the winter for 1/2 the price.

 

I had exactly the opposite experience with hyperflex. First the leg on my 5/4/3 got torn near the ankle, sent it back to them fully expecting a repair, they sent me a new suit, the updated model. Then the pull cord near the neck on my 4/3 got pulled loose and they repaired that, very nicely. As for their boots and gloves I was always told to stay away from them. But for a lower price suit they're very good.

 

yeah i have a 5/4/3 that i got for about $200. can't complain at all, but also have their lobster claw gloves and they are really stiff and do leak

 

I've got an amp 6/5/4 tgats probably going into its 5th season...no complaints. Its about at the end of its life, but since i dont take care o my suits, it doesnt owe me a thing. I love rip curl suits, but for the price difference i think the hyperflex was a better buy.

Have a 3/2 as well. Probably 3 years old and its doing fine.

Have a pair of their booties, and those suck. Fit poorly and leak. Used a few times and then decided to just keep them in the trunk as a spare pair. Never tried their gloves because excel gloves are magic for me, and indestructable.

 

hyperflex really don't hold up well at seams every suit I bought from them (4:3/2, 4/3, 2 5/4/3's) all lasted a year maybe before it had holes in 3 places. Xcel makes the best suits imo fit like a glove and last. You can get them cheap enough if you know where to look. I got a 5/4 drylock for 250$ and a x flex 4/3 for 120$ both new last year

 

OK so where do you look for those deals? Wetsuit Warehouse?

 

I'm shooting myself in the foot here but whiskeymilitia. You're welcome. You gotta look at the right time of year and such. Everything is around like 50% off. Send your wives and gf's my way bc they'll hate you for spending all your money on there. Board shorts are usually reasonable too. Hurley phantom's for 25$. Sign up for the private stash its free, has almost as good of deals. the deal of the moment feature blows these days. Snowboards too for 100-200$. I buy too much of my stuff on there.

 

the private stash changes everyday. They drop 2 things add 2 things. And you can combine orders if you see something you like you can buy it put it on hold and check next 7 days and add stuff you like as you see it which helps on shipping costs with less expensive stuff that otherwise wouldn't be worth buying after shipping cost. I'm not affiliated with them its just mad confusing if you've never used the site before

 

Just made my first purchase on Whiskey Militia last month. XCEL 5/4 drylock for $200. Initially paid $240, but saw it about a week later for $200. Sent them an email and they changed the price. Will definitely use them again, and very psyched to try out the 5/4.

 

I had a funny experience with Hyperflex in which I returned one lousy wetsuit and wound up with 3 - and a bunch of free gear.

Bought a 3/2 and after a couple of sessions the very cheap barrel swivel stopped working so I couldn't seal the suit. Sent it back. Waited all winter. Called em in spring to ask where my suit was and they said they had me a new one two months earlier. I never received it. So they sent another one. Two weeks go by and I never got that one.

Finally, I call them and it turns out the receptionist had written down my house number (118) wrong (the wrote 18). We correct the problem and they send me a 3rd suit.

Then, a few days later, I go down the block and knock on the door of the little old lady at house #18 and she comes to the door and says, "I've been wondering what all these boxes keep coming to my house for." And she hands me two new boxes all with new wetsuits in em. She had kept the first one in her living room for 3 months!

Now I had three suits. And in the last box they had thrown in a ton of extra free gear. They had also replaced the cheap barrel swivel with a much better one, clearly realizing the need to upgrade the product in response to the original problem.

So, what started as a disaster ended with me really appreciating some great service. I'll buy from them again.

 

Sounds to me Hyperflex is a very good company, each person with the exception of the OP has gotten fair treatment and in some cases, they went over and above what you can expect from most companies. They may not have the best product on the market, but it sure seems to me the customer service is top notch.

 

doesn't take a genius to understand that cheap means cheap. Cheap price, cheap product usually. My hyperflex 4/3 gave me a good couple years then same issues started happening... but it was cheap. So whatever. If customer support is important to you, spend $600 and get a great suit that lasts for 6 years or so... or buy a cheap one for say $300 and it lasts 3 years or so... you really end up spending the same amount either way.

 

Personally, when it comes to wetsuits, I'd rather have a better product than better customer service or repair policy.

I don't know anything about Xcel or O'Neill's repair policy or customer service because the wetsuits I've had held up. To me the BEST kind of customer service is the kind you dont need.

 

I agree, it's nice to not have to ever need customer service, but like many have said before, you get what you pay for. If the company is willing to send you a new wetsuit if the one you bought breaks down too quickly then that's all you can ask. If you want a wetsuit that lasts much longer then I would suggest spending the extra money. I personally do not own a Hyperflex, I wear Ripcurl and O'Neil, and i've never had an issue with either company, and i've had them for a few years now. It's important to take care of your suit after a surf and rinse with fresh water and hang dry, this will preserve your suit. If you have a cheap suit or an expensive one, it won't really matter if you don't take care of it, nothing is made to last forever, at least not surf equipment.

 

I used to buy all oniel products. All suits boots gloves rashguards everything. Then i bought a 5/4/3 tht was defective. Seams all failed on my third session. I begged them to replace, not repair, because it was obvious ALL the seams were going to fail eventually, but weeks went by and they sent me the suit repaired, despite the fact that i explained all my gear was oniel etc.. No surprise after a few more sessions te remaining seems failed.

This time they agreed to replacement, but not the same suit. Gave me a choice between a suit with a zipper or a zipperless one. I said i wanted the zipper, and they sent me the zipperless. It was a ZEN I think. That damn velcro closure leaked horribly. I gave up. Bought a rip curl and gave the ZEN to a buddy that had no suit.

That winter was ruined for Me. I was pretty broke back then sonI suffered much of the season without a suit. Ive never bought another Oniel product again, and never will. That was probably 10-15 years ago, and ive spent a fair amount of money on suits since. Even the big guys put out lemons. CS is important to me when I need it.

that's what i'm thinking now. had my finger on the trigger for an amp but now there's this talk and my r5 booties just arrived in the mail - won't get a chance to use em until saturday but the fit is sick (with my hyperflex liner socks lol) and they're obviously well made. so maybe it's pattygonads after all...
