It's this kind of bull**** that's the problem with today's surfing. Poor losers like this guy go surfing once or twice in the summer. Then they get on the Internet and click on every surf related website, and watch every surf video they can find on YouTube. Then They get a brand new board, and now they'll start buying wetsuits, gloves, boots, hoods ,all that sh*t. These munsons tell all there p*ssy friends , \"yea I'm a surfer I guess bro haha dude Sam hammer is my idol man !\" then, in the fall or winter they'll paddle out n get worked , almost drown and never surf again. This cycle repeats every year with seemingly more and more d bags each year. The kook cycle , I guess. And don't get me wrong I love to see a middle aged dad paddling out with his son, or maybe a grandpa on a log just out there havin a good time. The15-40 year olds that think theyre slater while they chop hop around sections rockin Ron John stickers on the nose of their board, yellin at older guys, kids, or guys that can actually surf are the kooks. I mean, when I hear "aloha spirit", I f*ckin Sh*t my pants. Are you kidding me? What is this rocket power? Hope we all get some waves and share that "Mundo rad aloha Shaka brah spirit peace love recycle shred" out there. Can't sleep? Rant on swellinfo.
I've actually been enjoying longboarding. Everyone in the line up is usually a little older, and very friendly. No arguing, no one calling eachother kooks. Why can't everyone be like that? What's wrong with the "spirit of aloha"? Do you think you are better then them because you bring aggro to the lineup? If you do then I am sure much more people would rather you leave the line up then be in it, and make like a kook in the cycle and find another sport. Hockey or football might fit you better
Wow... such dissent... i am a self proclaimed kook... you can call me Kaptain Kook if you like... it is hard to feel insulted when the subtle nuances and mores of a certain subculture are foreign to the object of "ridicule"... to my knowledge i do my best to stay out of the way of the surfing populace... i can stand up on the board but am in no way a "surfer"... will i ever be one? who knows... not all of us kooks are the vacuous, knuckle dragging neanderthals who are bent on success on the waves with no regard for those around them... and i have also noted an example or two of thinly veiled threats of physical violence among these posts...Geezly Pete... are there not more waves coming??? can we not co-exist in the water, though, our skill levels(and maybe maturity levels) are seperated by wide degrees??? does the aggressive surfer crowd feel the need to denigrate others because of the widely held notion that all surfers are "Spicoli-esque" stoners who seek only waves, shirking the responsibilty that is life?... don't know... can we get along??? i hope so... intelligent, coherent, replies are welcome... if all you want to do is threaten and act hard, bring it... i can type too
I think its great when new people learn to surf...However, Please Learn the rules of the water. just because your a kook does not mean you can drop in on anyone you like, because you don't know any better. Like wise decent surfers should share waves with the newbies. Play by the rules in the water and we can all be friends!
I totally agree with mysurfstory, its as easy as new guys learning the rules and wait on the outside for your waves, I did for years and now give away waves and tips to newer guys. As for the argo guys, get a life--this is the Jersey Shore not Huntington beach and if you are that good just move there and get your ass kicked by guys who feel the same the way you do but are 3x better. I said this before everyone should buy and read "The Surfers Code"
Sorry man, I guess your soul in lost in the world of "aloha". He's a Blues legend But I wouldn't expect you to know , go listen to skrillex duuude!!
I agree man but just let him be, hes not as fortunate to live as close as the surf as you or I do(assuming you live close) Id be angry to if I didnt live near a local spot. Jus enjoy the surf and at the end of the day he'll be ranting and youll be surfing
Yeah bro... You're so rad and hardcore. Maybe you'll get up on a knee this swell or do a sick el rollo
Too bad I dont bodyboard, BRO. Maybe you'll stand up on a wave over chest high and tell all your friends about your at least 7 foot bomb, ride on bro!!!
Someone's getting defensive. I think he is embarrassed that he bodyboards, and is now trying to cover it up by using agro attitude he showed us in his OP.
Weren't you that softy who got washed up on the rocks? Sucks bro. Get out of the lineup if you can't make the rocks.
If ur talking ur not surfing.... Wish there was waves so i had sonethin better to do other than read this pissing contest of a website
you are not a kook then. you are doing it the right way. being humble and staying out of peoples way. unfortunately, there are way too many newbie who don't give a crap about those around which is when the there is a possibility of violence.
I like the idea of the Aloha spirit. I'm no great surfer, but I can paddle and catch waves. This summer at Nobadeer there was a gent my age (mid 50's) trying to catch waves on a foamie that was too short. I let him surf my longboard, and helped him catch his first wave on his own. I felt great about that . . . right board, a little encouragement, and he's one step closer to getting out of kook stage.
