does anyone else get middle ear infections after surfing bigger waves with dirty water? this is probably the 4th or 5th time ive had this since april. it starts as slight swimmers ear then goes to middle ear. feels like i have a cotton ball stuffed behind my ear drum. anyone know how to prevent this?

No doctor visits? He/she did not offer you advice?

Use equal mix of vinegar and rubbing alcohol in your ears everytime after you surf, swim etc. and you'll never get another infection. Makes some up and keep in a dropper.
My bill is in the mail.

Exactly right. I talked with a friend of mine who is an ENT (Ear Nose Throat Doc)-she told me it is from years of surfing in cold water causing a narrowing of the ear canal. Water gets in and has nowhere to go…so it just sits. Doesn't help that its dirty water. Unfortunately, a lot of the low pressure systems that give us swell also give us rain. Rain=runoff. I hate ear plugs…so the age old remedy of vinegar and alcohol is the best. Make sure it is distilled white vinegar…you don't want your ear smelling like a bucket of summer boardwalk fries!

Wax in your ear can also be an issue with some people. You can have buildup and not really know it. Water can seep behind the wax and become stagnate thus become a breeding area for bacteria. The vinegar/alcohol mix will evaporate any water in your ears.
