    Pretty wild chanting "death to america" "Americans will pay for their dis-honor"

    Really? I posted this to hear what everyone thinks. Seems like it is going to be a little bit more dangerous trying to book flights to Indo, no? I have not seen the movie, but what I find is crazy is no one in America really gives a sh_t. I'm not talking about the general situation it created now, but no one here even knew the movie existed! It's some low budget crap of a movie, that has seemed cause all this mayhem. The two different prespectives are so far off its scary. Muslims seem to be FLIPPING out, while Americans are saying yeah it was wrong, but it was just a movie not too much of a big deal. U can just see the rage in the protestors eyes. Meanwhile, its hardly news here, and people just seem to shrug it off. Sorry for the grammar, this was more just thoughts....

    So the question is, are u still gonna book that flight to INDO?

    Thoughts..

    found this which kind of explains the persepctives of our cultures, and how this "film" has caused such a huge reaction... I know this is not much to do with surfing, but it definitely affects travel, and I would like to know those going to Indo, is this going to affect prices, safety, etc...... Seems like a bad time to be hunting for waves out in southeast asia

    I read an article about how most of the protesters haven't even seen the movie and do not have any idea what it is about. A lot reporters/historians think that the protests about the movie started as a cover story behind their true reasons for protesting...to "celebrate" 9/11. The movie has been out for months...it was reported on by an Egyptian Islamist television station on 9/8 and protests started on 9/11. I think it is too much of a coincidence for me. As for traveling to indo..as usual the media makes it seem like the whole country is on fire...only a tiny tiny fraction of people care enough to protest. I am sure people will be fine traveling there, especially on boat trips etc.

    true, but it bears extra emphasis when traveling, & esp. when traveling into an area that's potentially problematic. the thing i notice a lot when traveling is that most americans tend to act as if they are still in america. they either forget or don't care that people do things differently in other parts of the world, particularly so in areas w/ a different cultural & religious heritage.

    if you can park your car in atlantic city and surf, then you can handle indo. respect people, and be polite. in any 3rd world country police are the ones you have to watch out for. don't argue and pay the bribe.

    Mission = Hyjack Thread

    My biggest dream trip has been Nicaragua. It's always firing there!!! But after reading about the crime there I am really nervous about booking that trip for next summer. Seems like a super dangerous country. Anybody been out there?

    Idk man, Indo has the highest soncentration of Muslims if I remember correctly. I'm sure the media is only showing the pissed off ones, but I don't think I'd go. In general, anyone who is willing to kill over a book that is essentially a myth is retarded, wheteher it's the Bible, the Torah, or the Q'uran. Organized religion sucks, worship the ocean.

    It doesnt make sense, and even after trying to make sense of it, its just incorrect. And having been there, I didnt feel all that unsafe either.

    I realize wiki isnt always right...but they've listed Indonesia down around 30th in terms of Muslim as a percentage of country population.

    Actually it does make sense, I wouldn't post something if I didn't know what I was talking about. There's a s**tload of Muslims in Indo. I'll come back with a more reputable source when I have more time. From Wiki:

    According to the Pew Research Center in 2010 there were 49 Muslim-majority countries.[11] Around 62% of the world's Muslims live in South and Southeast Asia, with over 1 billion adherents.[12], The largest Muslim country is Indonesia home to 12.7% of the world's Muslims followed by Pakistan (11.0%), India (10.9%), and Bangladesh (9.2%).[3][13] About 20% of Muslims live in Arab countries.[14] In the Middle East, the non-Arab countries of Turkey and Iran are the largest Muslim-majority countries; in Africa, Egypt and Nigeria have the most populous Muslim communities.[3][13]

    I'm not saying dont go, I could really care less what you do or think, I'm just saying I wouldn't go.

    Best you could do? I was waiting for an intelligent and accurate response, not a smart a** comeback.

    @ Turrtle I have not. Again, not telling anyone not to go anywhere, the OP was asking people's opinions and I provided mine.

    click the third column "muslim % of total population", sort it descending. Displays muslim population as a percentage of the total country population. Indonesia is down at like 30th rank. When you said "Indo has the highest concentration of Muslims " to me that implied highest percentage, not total number. I remember from going there, and talking to locals, that there are a lot of Christians.
