My vote's mayhem all the way..everything about them, the marketing, the videos, the riders, the shaper and the way they ride! But that's a total opinion...not knocking the merricks in any way.. so what's your pick? Just curious
i like the Channel Islands just because im from Silver Stand that is connectected to Channel Islands Harbor. Yet i just got a new to me Lost Sub Driver.
never ridden a lost, but I've tried several channel islands. I found CI kinda clunky...yeah, they're super stable, but I just think they're a little weird. I've also ridden a bunch of Rustys and they were a better riding/more tuned board on average than CI.
Love them both. Have always been a CI guy but have recently gotten on the Lost train. I like the refinement of the CI boards...and yes not all CI boards are created equal. But I have a few guys that I like to stick with as I have grown accustom to their rails and foils. I do think that a lot of their boards work well in better waves and since we dont get good waves all the time Ive started exploring the lost line. The guys at lost are awesome and I really like their open mindedness to design and construction. There are lots of cool innovative ideas as far as blanks, design, and glassing that get me fired up. Plus its hard to beat designing your board on the AKU shaper program with him...love that! The ghost shapers and factory guys at lost are also amazing, plus their in house glass jobs are bullet proof. Very cool and down to earth...cant wait for my new boards! For me, Smaller waves or normal fat socal conditions: Lost Better waves or more powerful stuff: CI Both can have similar pricing so that is a wash.
LOST! I had the flow hook-up with Channel Islands and rode them for 15 years. Had some real magic boards. But after Burton bought them out, the custom orders became very incosistant, and even though the shapes were great, they would fall apart within months. I tried a few Losts, and loved how they rode. Bought a CI and Lost at the same time. Rode them both equally. Put my foot through the tail on the CI within 2 weeks. The Lost held up for a much longer time. Far superior glass jobs. Even with the hook-up, i'll never buy another CI. Anyone else, for the price, Mayhem is the way to go for sure. So digusted to see the price tags for off the rack CI's. $750 and up, plus the fins are sold seperatley. Over $800 out the door for a board that will last 6 months tops is a joke. Plus I like Matt Biolas' concept in shaping boards for anyone at any level. Alot of the boards he shapes for the pros, the average joe could ride. Very user friendly. It's so funny to watch kids rush to the store to buy the newest Dane or Kelly model, and being sold something they can't ride confidantley. CI sold out and went to ****.
the glass seems heavier on my one lost board vs my one CI. Probably going with a lost for my next one
thats how much ci boards cost.i like em both but if u compare surfers.. ci:slater, dane, curren lost:beschen,wardo,mason.... id love to get a ci board, maybe when i win the lottery...pay the rent or buy 1 new board thatl snap the first decent day of waves...il stick to the 'used racks'
no, it's not. anyone who says otherwise is either: A. looking at the prices of CI's surftech models, something CI has no control over. B. a clueless fool who spouts bs that they read somewhere on the internet. go to a shop & show me a stock poly CI that retails for $750 as they sell now: w/out fins. the most i've ever seen one retail for was $705 w/ fin & i work in a shop that carries them. not to say that $705 isn't expensive, but people who exaggerate prices & use that misinformation to bash a company really bothers me.
ditto...so much here say...I think people get upset at the higher end market costs...they want them but would rather put their hard earned money elsewhere...totally understandable.
I have been riding my CI Fred Rubble for the last year here in So.Cal. on mostly chest and above waves, and the worst that has happened to my CI board is a small pressure ding from my rear foot. I love the way my Fred handles in big surf. It is also very fun and can loosen up with the right fin config. It won't do well in smaller surf though. I rented a Lost V2 Rocket one morning a few weeks ago when the waves were 2-3 on a fat tide. I loved the way it rode. It paddled well and was super fast. However, I wouldn't take it out in anything over 4 feet. As far a glass, both boards felt the same. So choose your board for the right conditions, not because of a name brand.
I don't care for, nor have I ever ridden either one of those board makers boards. I use a local shaper and help support my local surf scene. I have two very magic boards from my guy right now. A fish and a shorty, and they are the best boards I have ever thrown under my feet. Not nocking CI or LOST but I cant see paying the price tag for a board that wasn't shaped for me specificly.
Do u realize that you can get customs from either? Lost is definitely easier to talk to but u can with both.
Here is Jersey at Brave New World and Spellbinders, Merricks Start at $695 and go up to $760+ for a Dane or Kelly model. A Lost Rocket at the same shops are $630.
... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. CTRL+F5 reloads the whole page.I've loved every LOST I've ever had.. But I disaggree with the statement that they last longer. I find that they lose their pop quicker then most other boards I ride. They are great for a while, but then they just dont feel the same.... Or maybe it's jus in my head and I want a new stick.
A friend of mine whose a bigger dude got a custom CI Flyer a few years ago with a little extra volume packed in. That board blew me away...the few times I borrowed it..the waves had to be decent, but it was a quality ride and it lasted him for years. I've also had a ...Lost RNF. Great board. Better than a locally shaped custom RNF (ive had many) IMO because fine tuning that shape for 15 years matters. I demoed a Lost Bottom Feeder this past summer for a couple of weeks and hated every minute of it. I could not ride that board to save my life.
sounds like you're being ripped off. average price at the shop where i work is in the $650-680 range.
