I thought i scored big with $300 round trip to Costa Rica in November...Now i have to pay and additional $600 to ship my board!!! And the $300 is for 1 board only!!!

    This is crap!

    From the Delta Website.

One item of surfing equipment is accepted as baggage for $175 (for travel within the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico) and $300 (for travel outside the United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico).

    Additional surfboard restrictions and exceptions:
Surfboards are allowed one board per bag; additional boards in a bag will be charged, per board.

What airline did you use for Costa? I went American Airlines and only paid $140 round trip to ship one bag with 2 boards and tons of clothes.

Not only is the price bull****, the extra charge per extra board is complete HORSE****!!!

    board fees

I recently traveled to Indo on Singapore airlines and was told surfboards were free. Ha, upon check-in at JFK they charged me $450 for the trip out. They counted boards there. On the way back they charged me $300 because they stated that my bags were over 20kilos. My experience is that you are subject to the whims of who ever checks you in. Most of the ticket agents don't even know how to charge you. Per board, weight or what. Sometimes I haven't been charge at all. I was charged $30 for 7 boards on an Asian Airline in June, I thought that was pretty reasonable. With the increased cost of fuel, surfers are going to feel it bad though for sure, NYC airports have always been pricks when it came to surfboards. PREPARE TO BEND OVER BOYS IF YOU TRAVEL WITH SURFBOARDS!!:(

Yeah I went to Barbados 2 years ago flew Air Jamaica. Non stop Boards were free....

Going again in Feb 09 and now the ticket price went up $100 + now it $125 each way for my boards. DAMN....Oh and to Air Jamaica a "quiver" is 2 boards.

I've been there soo many times I think this will be my last.. Time to explore the rest of the world.

But yeah $300 is a lot each way.

Yea, next time I go to Indo I'm going to buy boards there and save the whole hassel of traveling with them. Friends of mine have been doing that, when they leave they sell them and the total cost won't be much different then the fees to transport them nowadays.

    Fed Ex your board.
I do it all the time. It is much cheaper, & safer for your board

That's a great idea...I know it's been done....I just haven't..but nowadays I think that I may be considering that...or what icey stated about Fedex. Gonna looking into how much to ship maybe instead of paying $250.

I thought i heard about a company that strictly ships surfboards...anyone heard of them?

Last year I checked into Fed-Xing several boards to PR and it turned out to be very expensive. I believe it was something like $500. I'd like to know what kind of figures you guys get trying this option though.

JetBlue is the way to go

EFF Delta! JetBlue flys to California, DR and PR $50 for the board bag each way. For those of you who want to be heard Greenlight Surf Supply has a draft letter and link for your complaints to Delta.

took 2 boards to costa rica in the may through continental. only cost $95 each way and you can have 2 boards in the same bag. the "buy the boards there and sell em there" idea is the way to go. you'll ultimately save a few bucks. as for sending your board around the world via fed ex... good luck with that. i know iceybeatzjosh does it "all the time", but we all know that poser has never left the ****ty waves of oc... so he's just spoutoing off.

went to costa in february on us air - the web site said $80 ea way for a board but when I checked in they didn't charge any extra either way. Like charie said, it depends alot on who checks you in.
If you can get to florida & fly martinair boards are free.
