South faceing beaches prob best and hold more size. There could be a few windows that open up for some fun surf.

Frisco/Ocracoke/Cape Lookout are the only spots I can think of anywhere close to here...

quick question about this storm: Will this increase water temps, or will they stay around the same?

Oh and one more thing: Are storms like this better if they are closer, or farther from shore? Would swell period increase if the storm was closer or farther? How would it being closer affect the winds?

(Sorry didnt know where else to find this info)

Farther from shore is better ... the wave period increases the farther the wave has to travel, and in our case on the east-coast, we won't get caught with winds coming out of a generally northward direction due to the counter-clock-wise rotation of the storm's inflow at sea-level.

EI, Cape Lookout and the other S facing spots are showing 27+ mph offshore. Faces should be nice and groomed but might be hard to get over the ledge with near 30 mph winds holding you up. I'm guessing if the forecast holds true very few folks will paddle out. Last Wed we had 4-5 ft at 13 seconds and although it was very good there were a ton of closeouts. What do you think 8-12 ft at 13 sec will produce on the beachbreaks, walls of whitewater with no hope of duckdiving. Unless you find a spot with deep water (inlets) or a channel to get out through I think it will be a futile effort. This is the first time I think I have actually wanted a swell to drop a little.

I'm also hoping this thing either weakens or moves farther offshore.

Theres no way in hell my break (or most) will be able to handle 10ft+ @13+ seconds. Also, the fact that its an ESE Swell makes it even more prone to closeouts because it already starts Parallel to most beaches. With the state of almost all the sandbars, a swell of 7ft @9 seconds SE would produce MUCH bigger and better waves than a swell of 10ft @13 seconds ESE.

I'll give up my secret spot. I want somebody there in case I drown in the monster surf. The broke down pier in Frisco looked good last weekend, just small. it was clean when everything else was blown out from the ne wind

I *think* I know a couple spots I will be checking, but it's only going to be to watch if the wind forecast holds how it is now. I don't think even the South facing beaches will be working that great judging by swell direction.
