6mm suit for me right now. Air temps are the reason.

Before the hurricane I decided to wear a 5/4 and was definitely feeling the heat - a 4/3 would've worked for sure (some people were in 3/2's, but they were getting cold fast). With the air temperatures now though, I don't know if I would be using a 4/3 anymore - I'd rather hot out in the lineup than cold.

Btw, I wasn't wearing gloves and didn't need booties - would probably put them on the next time we're able to get in though.

A 3/2 with booties is enough for most south of NY

4/3 suit, 3mm boots, 1/5mm gloves (soon to be 3mm). way too early for the 5/4's in Massachusetts

Totally depends on the person. Your average person would be freezing in a 4/3 with air temps in the 30s or even 40s.

In VA Beach the water temp is around 55 with similar air temps, and I'm in a 3/2 suit, 5mm boots, and 3mm gloves ... So far it's seemed pretty comfortable, at least for a two hour session.

Still wearing a spring suit. That is the positive side of living down south.

I'm wearing a pink thong with fishnet stockings and a studded bra. No one takes my waves or even surfs within 100 yards of me.

Look at the water temp at the top of the page with forecast info for your area. Even tells you what suit/booties are reccommended. But, even with all that, you should know how the cold affects your body and go with that. Ive been wearing my 5/4 for almost a month in Mass with booties, and mittens depending on air temp, and getting more waves because kids are trying to tough it out with 3/2s and getting out after 2 hours. Id rather surf longer and be toasty...

4/3 Hazmat suit works well here in NY. Next time I'll also wear goggles.
