I would definitely get a v2 or v2 stub if at all possible. A lot more user friendly than the rocket og because a lot of people thought the aggressive tail rocker didnt work in smaller or less pockety waves. Just ordered a v2 5'9" with dims. I would recommend riding it just a little below your hight. You can go 6 inches shorter or more aggressively, but I would recommend 5'8-5'11. Cant wait for my v2, theres a great video of wardo riding it. Looks mental...http://vimeo.com/43382249
Riding it at the same height as you will give you a board that is really easy and will make you surf well and catch waves. Ive ridden a 5 10 and im also 510. It wasnt too small at all really and I caught a lot more waves. You can go really small for extra manueverability but it really doesnt matter all that much as it is a very manueverable board as is. Dont go too small, then you just have a pros board
Just looked them up. They look nice and perfect for east coast waves also. Anyone know where i can get a V2 rocket or stub?
Ability level is key in determing what you need. Also depends on if you surf more off your front foot or back foot. The V2 rocekt would be a way better choice if you surf more off the front foot. If you are more of a back foot surfer the orginal rocket may be better. The "lesser" ability surfer would find the V2 version a better fit. There is a ton of rocker in the last 12" of the orginal Rocket. Its meant to ride in the pocket of waist to head high waves. I weigh 160lbs, Im 5'-8' and intermediate/ advance I guess and I find in fatter shorter boards I ride a board with a volume of 26.5 liters. I ride a RNF in a 5'-5 x 19-1/4 x 2-3/8 but the rails are turned down a bit. Volume is 26.6. I just gota Tommy Moore "Milo", similar to a JS Revolution... its 5'-8" x 19-3/8 x 2-5/16 and its comes in at 26.5 liters. Go see Bryan Wynn, you wont have to worry about the size if you go talk to him, he can dial that in for you. Be honest about your ability, bring your current board and tell him your likes and dislikes. The Rocket may be compelety wrong for you. YOu can get a board with a Rocket outline but with different bottom contours and rockers that may work better for you. Start a relationship with a shaper. Dont buy off the $650 CI and Lost rack at your local store unless you really know what you want.
I am a beginner rider looking for my first shortboard and i think i may go with the v2 rocket if i can find a good deal. Do you think anywhere from 5"8'-5'11 would be a good size for that board?
www.realwatersports.com has some. I ordered my v2 there for only 525$ during a sale. The prices arent terrible but theres a bunch of shops that have them around the east coast. Lost is getting really popular for the conditions around here.
