47mph offshore "gusts" are nothing to be concerned about (on-shore would be a different story as it would mean the surf conditions are most likely a mess). This happens all the time during any typical storm clean-up session. If the steady-state wind speed was 47mph, that's a completely different story, but typically these gusts will be a good 20mph+ over the steady-state wind-speed, which makes any "gusts" under 50mph completely fine for surfing. Granted I didn't go out today because I was pretty spoiled after yesterday and thought the swell would last longer ... oh well.
