So we've been having some great swell the past few weeks in my area, and I'm very thankful, but lately theres been HEAPING wind every time I've gone since October...I normally wouldn't be bothered by this if it weren't cold, but the last few times I've been out there were 20-30+ mph nw winds that practically ripped my face off, and it goes right through the suit too. Today theres a prediction for 20+ mph nw wind and the surf is solid right now but I'm so turned off by the wind chill factor. Same thing for this sunday, 20-25 mph nw winds. Been the same annoying wind pattern for like 10 sessions in a row for me, although yesterday I lucked out when the wind shifted to light sw with nearly DOH surf late afternoon. Other than that, pretty frustrated..anyone else experiencing this? Yesterday my friend said it helped to put vaseline on your face or something..
After the summer, and all of the sea-breeze-trashed onshore sessions that come with spring and summer, I'll take any and all offshores gladly. 10, 20, 25 it really doesn't matter to me..above 25 is frustrating...yesterday got close to the offshores getting out of hand. (from the looks - i wasnt surfing) And as far as temps go, at least on the Delmarva we havent had any really cold sessions yet....water is still above 45 and the air temps for just about every session have been 40-45 or warmer..not even close to vaseline conditions yet, and i'm not sure putting any kind of slippery substance on your face before surfing steep critical late-drop waves is a great idea.
True. Seems like the winds been whipping no matter which direction its been in lately. Last Saturday it was dumping straight offshore but 30+ mph. Really hard to catch anything. Rather have that then crazy onshores like yesterdaythough. Luckily It was 35-45 gale force cross/onshores then it randomly shifted straight offshore at around 10 mph late afternoon. The buoys were at 20 feet so me and a friend paddled out. Probably the most epic session I've had all year, but it was a REALLY heavy swell. Just a lot of water moving around out there..scary haha

I was just discussing that out in the water today, and I was assured that I was just being a grouchy new englander and needed to do a trip. Hey, I'll try it! The off shores have been insane lately, but I'll take it over flat any day. Count your blessings.
Seems like every time there was waves this december the winds were howling offshore. Supposed to be a small swell for this Sunday, although forecast is predicting 25-35 NW again. Def looking forward to a nice glassy, juicy day.
