Rip Curl Flash Bomb 6/5/4 vs. O'Neill Pyscho RG8 5.5/4 - New York What would people suggest between these suits for NY winters. My last winter suit just crapped out (zipper broke on a o'neil mutant), but it was time to upgrade anyways... I am a big guy anyways at 6'2" and about 195 lbs and big shouldered. How are the sizing on O'neil vs. Rip Curl suits (I only have my mutant size (LT) to compare with)? Thanks.
Look into XCEL X-ZIP2.......basically same as drylock, Fully internal taped. I have a LT 6/5/4 and the suit is great. My shoulders are pretty wide and theres some room. Im 6'1'' 185. My last one was the same model and is a 5/4 and lasted 2.5 yrs and is still perfect but i just wanted a 6/5 for the brutal days. 8 hr sessions the last 2 big nj swells and did not get cold once. Oneil is externally taped which is dumb. Flashbomb is cool but $450. Can find these xcels on sale online
thanks a lot... ill look into that... I found the flash bomb for 405 with shipping and tax included... this website has some deals right now... www.cleanlinesurf.com Gonna make an impulse move on something this evening
I have a hyperflex 6/5/4 flow and have never been cold once while using it. comfortable and never felt restricted.... probably a lot less expensive then the other brands...
I find Rip Curls not as loose in the upper chest/shoulder areas. I'm wide and Rip Curl fits me great. F'in warm! Thick but flexible. Like anything, care for it right and it will last.
Do you really need a 6/5/4 in the Northeast? I'm in Delaware, yes, definitely a touch warmer, but I've been so toasty in my Flash Bomb 5/4/3, I couldnt imagine the need to go thicker.
As someone else mentioned- there seems to be a sizing difference from oneil to rip curl. Both really good suits- top of the line. I personally like the technology in rip curl and the way it fits but I'm tall and skinny. The oneil seems to be made for ppl with wider shoulders and chest. Maybe it's best to try on a rip curl and a oneil at a local shop- the most important thing is that it fits. That being said- for myself I would go rip curl- the suits looks warm on the inside- it drys fast - and it fits my frame best... But that's just me
a 5/4/3 will suffice anywhere NE USA, but the 654 DEFINITELY has its place at least a few days a year NJ and north
Just sent back my flashbomb 5/4 after 2 uses. Zipper leaked right away and then broke taking The suit off for the second time. I don't want it fixed, I just don't want it! I had a new psyco 2 6/5/4 that was useless by the middle of the second winter. I have a cypher 5/4 that still works in its 4th winter! I have a ripcurl 4/3 that had to be sent back shorty after I bought it too. Is it a coinsidence that my new ripcurl suits spend a lot of time being repaired while my 4 year old cypher is in one original piece? Hey Ripcurl, i need my 5 mil now cuz its January, get it?!! Good luck with your decision.
