It's 10 degrees in Philly and I'm watching surf videos on you tube. I can't afford a winter surf vacation so I'm California Dreaming for a day at the beach on the Jersey shore when I can go out with a rash guard and board shorts then having some Kensington beers at the house after a shower.

There's no point to this besides a yearning for when it gets warm again even though most ardent surfers don't like summer waves. Maybe I'll go down the basement and scrape the summer wax off my WRV longboard.

Here's to four months ahead when I'm down the shore with the boys jumping some knee-high rippers. I hope that you guys up North Jersey recover from that ***** Sandy to enjoy summer 2013.

Should be some small N wind swell waves to ride tomorrow where I live, but with NNW winds around 20mph and wind chills around 10-15 degrees! Gonna be toasty...

I always wonder how do the horses on Assateague survive this nasty cold knife weather?

Its really cold, man. Really cold. I have a comical number of layers on for the nightly 45 minute walk with the dog. Its gotten to that point in the winter when you have a hard time remembering what it feels like to be genuinely warm. 4 Degrees tonight when I went out. Wind wasn't moving so much, though. Crystal clear. But cold, man, cold. And flat. But to be honest, my 5/4/3 has been dry for about a month and its the 3rd season in it and I feel undergunned...But that's just an excuse. I've been drinking an awful lot, and telling myself I'll get in the gym and the water. There is just a ton of college hoops on these days.... And its really cold.... and two fingers of Red Breast, a slight stone, and a solid read or some tunes with the game on mute....... Fvck. I'm getting old.

If it's still above zero it's not even close to cold.

Everybody has gotten so used to winters with 50 degree temps that the moment it's actually like real winter used to be it seems unbearable. I actually like it this way because my yard turns into a mud pit during these wussy winters and my dog comes in the house looking like he just went four wheeling. Dress warm, get a 5-4-3 (or maybe a 6-4) and wait out this nasty flat spell. Ahh, nice frozen ground. Of course, I can't wait till spring either.

Whether you're in Philly, or a block from the beach, we all hurt the same when it cold and flat. Funny, though... if it was 6' and offshore, nobody'd be *****in about the weather.

give me a break. a two days 'cold' snap and all the hand wringing. they do just fine since animals tend to be a bit tougher. and i f we did ever get a major cold snap, some would DIE. It's called the cycle of life. i suppose a few inches of snow is a major 'blizzard'?

I agree the winter can be a downer when all you do is think about summer, but Pump you are right, come on, this winter has been pretty damn warm! I am actually glad to see it get cold. The days that get really warm just tease you and that pisses me off.

when the line-up has slush in it and the bay freezes, THEN it's cold.

I did the polar bear plunge one year when there was slush in the shore break, that was cold!

It's been nice this winter, highs in the 70-80's range, slightly chilly in the morning / evening. But we'll get a few days here and there in the 30's / 40's, it's not over yet.
