i'm just excited to be able to go ice skating for the first time in five years! there's no surf on the horizon in mass bay so i'm not too worried about the cold. i might even take my trainer kite out and rig up some kind of ice skateboard this weekend. when life gives you lemons...
nice. just use your hockey skates with the kite. but who said cold=lemons? try riding mountains.just got back from skiing langille ridge on a sunny day. ...and tomorrow is supposed to be 5 ft and clean at kachemak bay. mountains. ocean. repeat.
Read my statement, jackass. It's not hand-wringing, it's a legit question. It's 15 degrees with a 35 knot wind & no shelter unless you count scrub trees & bushes. Try not to leap onto your pompous little attack-piglet soapbox every friggin time you see something that sets you off, which, really? doesn't seem to take much 'pumpmaster'.... And Cresto is in friggin Alaska, piglet, his perspective is on a whole 'nother plane. Here we go again.
good advice cresto! ya i got to do the board and surf combo one weekend last year. but being 2.5 hours from real mountains makes it a little tough to do it on a regular basis
This cold is definitely too cold but there is something great about sitting 50 yards off shore while its 32 degrees and snowing. You cant get that feeling in the summer. And being in New England its rare that we get to go without at least a 3/2 so I have no idea what its like to long for the days of boards shorts and a rash guard.
12 degrees outside isn't cold so put a plug in yer meat wallets. At the most, I'll switch my snake skin loincloth to racoon hide.
This past week has been a little chilly but truly nothing to whine about. i remember about a decade ago when the sakonnet river froze over... that was a cold winter
Bring on the cold. How bout an annual Swellinfo winter classic, eh? May be a more efficient way to express our annual surf opinion grievances towards one another?
I know right. Its 17 degrees outside now which is pretty f*ckin tropical. The Barnegat Bay is frozen completely over, probably from the excessive heat that you can't feel with your skin or measure with a thermometer. I'm pretty sure it’s called "hot ice". What kind of loincloth do you use in late January? I heard Dave Canterbury (a U.S. army SRT sniper and survival specialist) say 32 degrees in damp coastal Nova Scotia was cold, but what would he know? [/QUOTE] Hey doug, 32 degrees isn't cold in my book... so i dont really give a **** about what you or dave canterbury thinks about it. so go eat a ****, and sack up.
Ironically, 32 degrees is the temperature water takes the form of ice hence the term “freezing cold”. 32 degrees isn’t worth starting a conversation over in late January, but were not talking about 32 degrees are we? That was a point of reference on my part. The huge Arctic air mass that sat on top of many states this week produced temperatures much colder than the freezing point of 32 degrees. Today, the Polar Bear Plunge was cancelled in Asbury Park NJ due to the 10 degree wind chill. Possibly, this “not cold” air mass was all over the news this week because it was a noteworthy “not cold” snap? Perhaps, this conversation was started because these “not cold” temperatures were a stark contrast to the 50 and 60 degree temps (NJ) we experienced the week prior? Attempting to convey how tough you are via keyboard by implying temperatures below 20 degrees aren’t cold and saying things like “eat a d*ck” to someone who’s willing to admit that it is in fact cold, is quite the opposite of tough. I suspect the “not cold crew” are the same guys wearing 4/3’s in 42 degree water claiming they’re warm while never surfing more than an hour and citing some other lame excuse to get out of the water. I find that sh*t comical hence my ridiculous sarcasm and loincloth jpeg. You’re supposed to laugh at that sh*t and maybe yourself if your ego isn’t to huge. As far as I know (some of you don’t disclose your location), Cresto is the only one who makes sense by saying it’s not cold because he lives in Alaska. "talk is cheap", talking tough and being tough are very different things.
sorry to disappoint you doug, but i infact wear a 5/4 with 7 mil boots and 7 mil gloves and stay out for hours on end. I dress properly for the cold and thats why it doesnt bother me. toughness and ego have absolutely nothing to do with it. I find your sarcasm towards my opinion rather rude and irritating, thats why i told you to eat a ****, not because you think its cold outside. oh, and Aquidneck Island is in Rhode Island just north of you.
its freezin,my shytty house built in the 30s has that horse hair insulation and it sucks!!cant wait til summer.been snowboardin down at mountain creek, cant wait til spring and summer.flat summers and boatloads of chix in bikinis,if ur a jersey surfer that hates summer,u must be one of those fairys
yea id say this guy is right on.a 5/4 keeps u very crispy.i never had the luxery of buyin a new one,i got a used suit from fairias in shipbottom thats probly 3 years old b4 i ever used it.still goin strong after 4 years of use.and i used to work outside in a shipyard all year long.u wear 2pairs of socks, some thermals, and a nice carhart suit...but i still hate the cold, but the waves will keeep u warm.u have to keep movin in the water,i paddled out a few years ago in a 3/2 in december with 3 mil booties...i will never wear another 3/2 again, but i still made the most of it
Why am I disappointed? = I'm not Was it cold this past week or not? = yes, cold Why do you conveniently ignore all the good points I made? = ego Why would you tell me to eat a d*ck and while saying I'm rude? = internet tough guy + hypocrisy Why would you tell me to sac up while clearly displaying your thin skin? = hypocrisy + internet tough guy Your first post was a denial of the Arctic air mass (coldest of the season) that sat on us all week …… c’mon, what is that? I insist you already know that Arctic air is cold air and temps below 20 are also cold. If I were proven wrong about this past week’s temperatures, I’d be glad to admit it, but….. Relax yourself guy, I’m just making my point. If you like, I can fashion you a nice possum hide loincloth as a peace offering.
