i dont have money for another board, so i wanted to get a good pair of fins. Dimensions on my board are 6 4 x 19 3/8 x 2 1/4, its a big wave, big guy board, and im not surfing anything over 8 ft and i only weigh 170. i wanted to make it more maneuverable/looser. Any ideas? I was thinking of making it a twin fin setup on smaller days to make it more slidey, is that a good idea? Any answers would be appreciated!!

Twin fin would not make it more loose. Probly make it more stiff. Quads will do that however

Why would it make it stiffer? Twins are looser... But I agree that he should not make it a twin... I think your best bet is to sell it or trade it and get what you are looking for

smaller center fin is a good starting point...go down 1 size from what you're riding now (ie: if you're using M-7's, drop an M-5 into the center box.

but i agree that the board seems to be a bit big for you. you describe it as a "big wave, big guy" board, but you say you weigh 170 & won't be surfing anything much over head high. i'd say you, at most, want something in the 6'1"-6'2" range.

Ya... go for a smaller center fin for starters. You'll feel a loss in drive, but much looser. Also, try a more upright (less raked) fin in the sides, or fins that have the same base but less tip area.

yeah...i do agree that i need a new board, but most places down lbi right now arent open cause of sandys damage... i think getting a new board, maybe a 6' 1 firewire flexfire is gonna be my best bet, or a 6'2 psycho ward from ...lost. I need a board that is good from knee to head high, definietly not my 6' 4

the only reason i would keep it is because im going to college next year at URI and they have a couple big wave places, so i might wanna hold onto the 6' 4'' so i have a reliable bigger wave board

if you want to find those 2 models, you'll probably have to travel. heritage carries firewire & lost, so you might find what you're looking for there.

only if they have an account w/ the company already. if you can't find what you want in your immediate area, your other options are to travel a little bit more & throw some support to a different nj shop or be a soulless kook & order online.
