Broke my thigh bone last month - not as bad as some (didn't need surgery, just setting and now on crutches) - wondering how long before I can get on a board again! Anybody ever have a similar injury?
broke my Femur racing MX in middle school. 4 months on crutches and 6 till i rode again. not one of the funner injuries to get
My kid was back performing at a competitive level in 10 months after breaking both bones in his LOWER leg... one in two places... plates, screws and all. But I don't know if that's any indication or not.
I had a broken my tib/ fib (lower two bones in the leg) as well. its a far less severe break then you femur. i was walking in a month with a walking boot and that was a double compound fracture. Femur breaks are a horse of a different color. they are no joke and i wouldn't mess with them
Take it slow. Everyone heals at a different pace. I was back to work behind a bar quicker that the several months that I had planned on. Once it can bear a little weight, go body surfing. Your doc will probably encourage swimming for pt, why not do it with some fins and into some waves? It's a great fix and it will probably be a while before you can pop up comfortably and with power. If you give it time and drink your milk, it will be stronger than before. That's how I rehabbed my busted leg. I feel for you. On the bright side, the whole ordeal actually got me way more stoked on body surfing.
OK - I'm healing, I'm in P.T. (a lot of time in the pool, too), i now use a cane part time, and no cane part time - I'm mostly worried about popping up quickly enough - I can push up and get to a squat, but getting there is too slow - my therapist knows i want to get back on a board asap, and is helping with regaining my quad srength, but i'm not so sure about the "fast-twitch" muscular strength to get to my feet faster! suggestions?
Are you fully healed? Maybe a lot of leg lift stomach work. I find that and lower back work really help my popups too.
