I was just reading post about ranger giving tickets in NJ. In NC they'll cuff you and haul you away. Especially at Oregon inlet. I was out there in my 4x4 with a friend, from OBX, in his. no waves so we went under the bridge. the sand was hard so we didn't lock up. there were tons of conch shell all over. We were cruising side by side, and both saw a giant shell at the waters edge sticking with the big end straight up. My bud turned and sank right up to the body is soft sand. This good ol boy in a monster truck pulls up and gets out with a beer in his hand. We told him to get rid of it before a ranger sees. He said it was legal. A ranger was coming, so the guy puts the beer in his truck. Ranger stops, walks around peeping in every truck, not saying a word. the guy finish hooking up and asked the ranger if he could pull my bud out. the ranger never said a word the entire time. The big truck effortlessly yank it out. The guy gets out expect attaboys but instead was handcuffed and driven away for drinking and driving, and having an open container. Remember, OI is part of hiway 12.
and a dumb redneck in a big truck should have known ~ they use telescoped/type viewers to watch... #justsayin
the ranger let him pull your buddy's truck out of the sand so he could give him a DUI. Sneaky officer...dumb redneck.
OBX cops are probably the best in the nation at sniffing out anyone that has even the slightest hint of alcohol in their system. I'd hesitate before using mouthwash or eating an old apple around there. At least cabs are easy to come by. Funny thing is they were one of the last locales around here to make it illegal to have an open container in the car. You could toast the cop next to you at a stoplight as long as you weren't drunk.
I used to be designated driver of the MexEcono Restaurant in KDH. I drove that big black school bus with horns on the front a couple new years eves. we'd get pulled every ten minutes. good thing they didn't have schroom detectors on them.
OBX cops=ruthless...friend got a DUI the morning after drinking and staying at another friends...he had to work the next morning not super early but early enough... traffic stop...dewwie Up until 2000 ish you could have an open container unless you were the driver.
Before zero tolerance, the same guy that got stuck in OI, was driving thru Duck and a piggy had a road block. said he smelled weed. found a little and wrote a ticket. when walking away, he spotted a bowl and ran him in to the hoosgow.
Yep 1993 me and a bro just graduated high school. Drove to OBX, camped at the light house at Hatteras. First night was a bad storm, tent got blown down and camp site torn up, ended up sleeping in the car. Next day we went surfing all day. Got some food to cook out. We were grilling when a ranger drives by the sites checking on everyone. She comes over to talk to us and everything is cool. On her way back to her car she walks by the open window of my buddies car and sees a corn cob pipe sitting out. She leans in and grabs it, sniffs and searches the car. Finds an eighth and the pipe. Proceeds to write us tickets then help get our grill going and tent set back up. Very helpful after giving us tickets. BTW Hatteras camp ground was (is?) Federal Prop so it was a $1,000 possession ticket and $100 paraphernalia ticket!
Went drove out to the point in Hatteras in 95. we set up camp and put some poles up to make it look like we were fishing. and started to get sleep in our beach chairs. A Black truck pulls up behind us which pissed me off. My cooler headed bud went up to investigate. he calls me over to check something out. I went and he had me look thru something the guy was holding. it was a night vision scope. I asked the guy if he was a peeping Tom. No, he said, a Park Ranger. After talking with him a while, I discovered why most of them act like ****s. He was a Hillbilly from Kentucky who thought he'd be spending his days frolicking in the forest with Bambi. but instead got stuck running the beach fighting deer flies.
Good times! Wasn't around in the winter but spent many nights there in the summers. If it was you driving while I was there, thanks for the rides and sorry for the times we were being drunken fools. My friend played at open mic night and got 1 free beer for the night. Got pulled driving home 4 hrs. later. Cop couldn't give him a dui so he wrote him a ticket for driving left of center. That's left of center in HIS lane. Who sits down and writes and then votes on such stupid laws???
My friend and I took Miguel, the owner of MexEcono, to CR with us. He'd just sold the place and asked us to take him. He didn't surf, and hadn't been out in the sun for years. We went to Matapalo. The wifey was with us so we got a room at the Agua Luna. Puero Jimenez is a scary place so the wife stayed in the room while went went out to find some Jimenez hay. While we were out we picked Miguel up some powder and a puta. He stayed in the room when we went to Carate the next day. When we got back to the US, I was looking at the vids and there he was with his "new bride", putting his face where no one ever should. Bottom line, If he becomes famous, I become famous.
Haha, funny. I met him at the emergency room after a rough night in the mosh pit. He was nice enough to load up the injured and bring them all to the hospital. Most bar owners just shove you out to the curb.
