Thanks New York Hospitals. All my local beaches closed. OC, Sea Isle, Strathmere, Avalon. I AM PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't know. I would imagine so. Even if they open the beaches I'm not 100% sure that all the needles are gone.
I wonder if you got poked by a floating syringe, if a threat of any disease would be present, or if any virus would be dead? I would assume it would be hard to catch anything...
to answer your question, no. I'm from Avalon and I tAlked to one of the officals and he said if you do get poked with a syringe you'll won't get any diseases but you should go get a tetnious shot and your good
thats what i figured...thanks... i have always wondered how many people have seen syringes on beaches..i know some places are more known for them then others...
Ahahaha you are kidding right? First HIV can live on those needles 24-48 hours. I know that is a minor threat because the waste could have been floating around for a couple of days. Even with that not such a high threat you can get Hep B and C which will kill you a lot quicker than HIV...
I think that may be accurate, most viruses would be denatured (deactivated) by the water's high alkalinity, (due to the salinity), and I believe the 24-48hr survival is in optimal conditions, (not 100% sure though). Not that this doesn't still piss me off. I think you would be much more at risk for getting hit by a drunk driving down this weekend than getting a virus from one of these needles. There was a report of testing the vial last time this happend in like 1991 and 2 of the 5 vials were actually positive to HIV antibodies (ie. had the virus at some point) just something to consider also if you are germophobe like me. Its sad too, I just got back from Dominical and the beaches seemed so clean down there by comparison, even with backpackers literally living on the beach. I think I will give up and go camp in DE this weekend instead just to avoid this mess, its sad because I really want to give Jersey a chance. LBI was pretty dirty last time I was down there in May though too.
