i know man hopefully it comes true but once ts hannah passes use then we might get a clean up but i cant wait.
The problem with this scenario is basically the storm is going to nail you guys . Still lots of uncertainty at this point - lots of variability between the models.
Follow one simple rule i have learned in SNC..... If it's clean....it's flat or knee to waist at best If it's howling onshore crap then it's overhead.... Look at the last couple of days with the forecast for Holden... tuesday was clean with sets 1-3' overhead 2 days ago and now is chest to head high and clean...something ALWAYS happens here to the swell or the wind or both...I have a huge respect for those of you whom have lived here all your lives..it's amazing the effort required to get a wave with push here... I hope I can stick my foot in my mouth on any of this....but two years has proven one thing only...1/2 the size as predicted is usually the case... I take the Outer Banks out of this equation though...each time I have made the trip up there it has paid off in one form or another...generally even bigger than the forecast it seems...and it has push... O.K. Rant over....I will jump back on the bandwagon and PRAY for surf sometime in the next week....and not waist high and clean...that's f*** garbage...please just solid head high is all I ask for...PLEASE!!!!!!
it can't get big here southern NC can't get bigger than a few feet overhead. It's too shallow offshore and that limits the overall heights. Remember the swells in a victory at sea storms are always shrinking as they approach shore. Some people may scoff at the notion of overhead being the limit here, but it's true. (the east coast scale for surf heights is usually off anyway, where many surfers refer to head high surf as overhead). Size is less significant than push. chest high barrels always trump big smush. Also, as far as Holden and the southern isles. Long interval swells get cut down harder than short wind swells and are more affected by tides. happy hunting-
I agree completely. The best days I have had here are when it is waist to stomach but had perfect lines and and clean breaks. I've surfed overhead but it was just slop, and thats no fun.
defiently i would rather surf waist to stomach clean than head high slop it gets no fun after having to battle the drift.
looks like the southeast coast will need to brace for a potential serious landfall. Hanna is anticipated to strengthen over the next couple of days.
Thank you - you are absolutely correct. People down here like to inflat their wave heights, but in the 6 years I've lived down here, I have never seen it bigger than a few feet overhead; maybe 2' overhead at the biggest. Even when it gets overhead, its very soft even at the "heavier" breaks like Mas, CB, etc.
