light onshore winds arent too bad right? like from 5-10 MPH? I've never really surfed when they're stronger than 1-4 MPH, or its offshore, so I'm just curious.

You live in Florida and you've never surfed in onshores above 5?

Thats amazing. You drive three hours across the peninsula just to always surf the side thats offshore?

Kidding....if the swell has some lines to it and is above waist high, onshore at 5-10 is fine.

Sideshore at 5-10 is actually worse IMO. Puts more chop on the face.

(Lihgt?) Anyway, I think surfing in light onshores is fine. And I also agree with f.s.c.g. that it does sometimes depend on the break. Although, isn't FLA just a big stretch of beach other than a few popular inlets? You pretty much have to surf whatever you can don't you? 'Cause if one spot os onshore then evrerywhere is.

Yea... only 10 is a bit much for me. Sideshore... even side-offshore... is worse.

I've surfed onshore winds if you read above, but nothing more than 1-5 MPH

It all depends on the beach honestly, some handle onshores better than others, i think as long as it's less than 15mph it can ben fun, start getting into the 15-20 range and it starts to be a bit much.
