winds were ok real early but it was a north swell and went cold onshore later a.m. and stayed cold onshore total ****house here all day.forecast had a sse swell, offshore winds and warm air temps.surfed some real crap, not a south swell, not offshore wind.
Checked it, looked pretty bad actually. Onshore winds 10-15 kts all day and the tide was all over it in the morning. Didn't even bother to suit up. Kindof sucks when you are looking forward to it all during the week being good and its crap....
Surfed it tonight wrote off the morning. It was sloppy, onshore, and it got really shallow but was still fun.
I went out at like 9 in lavallette, and the wind was light was were 3-4 foot solid surfing. Came i around 11 grabbed a late breakfast, looked again around 12, winds were east at like 10 mph. Decided to try again at like 1:30 because of the low tide. Real crap! South south east wind and no power to the wave maybe 2-3 if that.
Far as I'm concerned the fucasts have been missing the winds big time for the past month. Not picking at any site, it's all of them, SI, S'line, Windguru, Windalert, et. al. And if the wind isn't right? As the shredmachine might say: fuhgeddaboudit. AI was fat rollers early, not enticing, S wind turned onshore; and then nothing decent ever really materialized before, on or after afternoon low. Mainly cause the S wind was dinking around with a straight onshore all friggin day - - - the W wind never materialized. Also, whatever energy was in the water in the morning croaked by noon. I like spring swells, last year there wer 6 or more decent fun ones. Whatever this one was ended up a mish mosh of ocean. Caught some rides, but getting out through the trench & the blown out rollers made it 'one of those days.'
Got in around 11:30 here and it was light onshore, but really light, so it was doable. Some solid chest high sets but pretty inconsistent and really shifty. At first I was all amped up and trying to chase 'em down, but that was just getting me really frustrated. Then I just took a deep breath, looked around, and remembered to just appreciate what I had... a nice day, a few fun waves, and nobody else in the water. I ended up staying out for three hours.
+1 LBC...I had a fun morning...seemed like ton of others as well...report close enough for me--forecasting is not an exact science...
Agree...late afternoon ocmd was fun. Swell was solid waist chest high with good enough form that the sideshores weren't a major issue.
this was my experience, too...very light offshores in the AM when i paddled out, around 8. a bit too full of a tide, but there were some really fun peaks coming through. given that i've been down w/ bronchitis for the past month, i was just happy to be in the water & able to surf w/out hacking up a lung. water wasn't bad either; very comfortable in my 4/3 w/ 5mil boots & 3mil gloves. had a cap on, & was grateful for it when i had to do multiple duckdives, but there were guys out w/out hoods of any kind.
South jersey was fun with light offshores followed by light variables for the afternoon. Mainly sw but not too strong to stop me from the rare spring double dip. Forecast here was pretty solid but it was a super shifty and peaky swell. Def a little funky
Surfed Avon in the late am and had some fun ones then belmar in the afternoon wind was se all day but light enough to still get some fun ones. At least I know I can manage in a 4/3 for two hours.
