A couple of weeks ago a beach replenishment project was approved for Deal, and late last week it was approved at a committee for Loch Arbor. Allenhurst will be having a meeting next week to vote on it. This is a terrible thing. While Loch Arbor is no where near as good as it used to be on most swells, it is still a good break, albeit incredibly packed in the summer. Allenhurst was a break that used to be good, but has seen very little action in the past couple of years. However since Sandy Allenhurst has had some great days. This is on top of the already planned replenishment for Long Branch, and Asbury Park through Manasquan Inlet. The plan, if the last few towns approve, will pump sand in from Sandy Hook all the way to Barnegatt Inlet. Every break that has become more natural since the last replenishment and the storm will be destroyed.
I don't think people realize just how bad this is. End of surfing for several years for the Hook to Barnegat Inlet. At least until the next major storm takes away a large percent of the sand.
It won't end surf everywhere, there will be a couple of spots that pop up and work... But think about the crowds at those spots once the word gets out!
who cares, why would you want to surf there anway. like you said its packed and all the queers are coming out of the closet since its spring and its only going to get more and more packed. go find a new spot for the summer and when hurricane season comes it will probably just wipe out the replienshmetns anyway and hopefully we'll have decent breaks by the fall
this blows,last time they did this i literally stopped surfing for a couple years.there was no ridable waves.gues we gotta hope for the best or move?
i'm buggging out from this. i love my home break, now where the hell am i going to go....once they start the project, how long does it take to finish??
They are going to start by summer at Loch Arbor and I'm not sure but I assume atleast a month. And 1 storm will not be enough to fix it. Some spots never return, for instance the cove at Sandy Hook. Loch Arbor has never had beach replenishment done, atleast not in the past 20 years.
I remember when they did the restoration in Sea Bright back in the summer of 1996. I left for college that August and had an awesome week of surf due to a hurricane off of N.C. I surfed for 8 hours straight that last day in waist-head high waves before I went to the desert of Arizona. Ughhh...wtf was I thinking. haha. That was the last time I surfed in SB. Only in the past 2 years has it become surfable again, and only at a few spots with the right swell. It took Sandy Hook forever to come back (and not nearly as good as back-in-the-day) and even longer for SB. Spots to the south seemed to come back a lot quicker. Probably has something to do with currents and natural erosion. I was looking forward to this summer to get my 4 year old son into some little rollers at the beach in SB. Now it'll be back to 5 foot neck-breakers literally breaking right on the beach and a ten foot drop two feet from shore. My kid will be 20 years old before he see's SB break again. It sounds heartless after the devastation of Sandy, but I'll be praying for storms to eat up this replenishment.
