It's a new era and in the tradition of boring, generic threads I pose this question: Who is your favorite surf photographer, besides Sturgis Powell? Mine is a humble Quaker from West Chester, PA. Oh, he grew up surfing when he could, but spent many a day skating and dreaming of those waves on brillant Southeast, PA days. Seth Stafford would later leave his West Chester roots and become a staff photographer for Transworld Surf. Seth was the grom of my old high school era crew who later distanced himself from us as we started to live like Shawn Briley, Chris Ward, and, some of us, eventually like David Eggers and Michael Petereson. Oh, Seth why did you go? Why baby why? Did ya have to let me go and leave me so lonely. Why baby why? Stop playing with my heart. I told ya............ Hey, you guys like Dokken? Anyways, he's the best. Though the magazine he works for is garbage. It's target market is 12-year-old male masturbators who possess less impressive attention spans than their peers of yore. Really, you people need to get off the PS3's and throw your smart phones away. Stop watching American Idol and read Kurt Vonnegut. It's sooooooo ironic that society has this tech boom yet the average citizen is becoming less intelligent by generation.
Good for you posting this...Despite your trolling, i think this has the potential to be a quality post...so ill attempt to contribute. Saw this the other day http://www.surfermag.com/features/to-boston-with-love/.
Dude, how am I "trolling?" Show examples and be specific. People who use the term "trolling" are a bit on the dorky side. How is what I'm doing any different than you or anybody else on here? Show examples and be specific. People peruse threads that appeal to them and maybe they throw a comment out here and there. So, that's trolling? And hon, I'm almost certain, in my history, I've contributed more quality posts than you. And comment on things in the proper thread, not in places where they don't belong. And, besides, you never answered my question. Insulting me doesn't answer the question.
Amen... But my answer to your question would be Andrew Kidman, hands down... http://www.brilliantarrogance.com/2012/02/photography-by-andrew-kidman.html P.S. Don't get sucked into it... again.
Yeah.......thanks for the advice LBCrew. I just had to address that once and for all. I've actually changed and won't be entertaining any online arguments. I've mellowed. HA. No, really I have. I even stopped wanting to harm an opposing political party and don't even argue politics anymore. But, here's what is interesting: An 18 hour battle went down, full of elementary school insults(gay slurs, body part comparisions), and it even stretched into multiple threads. I would have been arrested by the Swellinfo police had that been me. Ah man, life, not even on the "intranets" is not fair. Hey LB, hug your dog tonight. All of youse, hug your dogs and hook them up with some food.
matt kurvin and christor lukasiewitz for capturing great color and moments, Ted Grambeau and Russell Ord for beautiful big wave shots
Steve Fitzpatrick http://www.stevefitzpatrick.com/galleries/surf/ Great photographer and even though I've never met him, strikes me as a good guy - even though he's originally from Jersey
One of the best things about coming back to work on Monday is checking in and getting my morning laughs here...to answer the question, I don't have one particular favorite, but I like what Kalen Foley and the Jersey Mobb are doing, good things for the east coast and bodyboarding in general. And PJB, I'll keep giving my dog big hugs and good eats...when I feed him his dinner tonight I'll tell him it's from you.
Nice man, I know his one (younger?) brother very well. Never met Seth but have admired a lot of his work...
Joe Ewing of San Diego is my favorite photog. Mostly for personal reasons. He has gotten the best surfing shots of me out of anyone. He took the picture of me in my avatar, but aside from the personal side of loving his shots, he was just the guy in San Diego that was all over every swell. If the waves are going off and the conditions are spot on, Joe Ewing is always at the right place. Whether its huge sunset cliffs, perfect avalanche or the jetty, blacks, mexico, every ASP event at trestles etc... The guy just loved phtographing surf and surfers. He used to go down to Baja with the Plus One team.... The best days ive ever seen at the La Jolla reefs when its firing, I look back to the shore and Joe is there with his zoom lense.... It was the best feeling to see him when you got to the beach because A) You know its firing and B) He is not a pro-hound.... He will shoot whoever is surfing well. You dont need 25 sponsors, just get a good wave, a d good barrel, a nice turn and he will make that sh** look amazing.... http://joeewing.printroom.com/pro/ewing/default.asp?shopperid=WAKS17AHELEG8LJWS0S4NDHRL9500439&
scott aichner - pre wall street Aaron Chang locally - Chris Zeh, Matt Lusk, Andrew Hersh, those jersey mobb toolbags.
Ahh you know the notorious Ian, huh? And people post your favorite picture. Please let it be something of substance. Not air photos. Something that captures a mood. Something reflective. Give me something to look at that takes me a way. Whoever posts the best pic gets to go to Chuck E Cheese in Mays Landing(or is that EHT) with me. Hey who was that ecentric Aussie kneeboarder(kneelo, for the Aussies) dude that died in Indo some years ago....anybody....anybody? I can't grasp his name right now. Man ecentric types......remember when they domianted the surf world. Now we have people who tattletale to surf forum moderators if they don't agree with the content. Hey Zues, what happened? Man, that's really disturbing. Oh LBCrew.........in reference to your "Amen" statement...........Ok you reposted the quote about PS3 and smartphones, but left out American Idol? Oh no LBCrew, say it ain't so !! Aww heck, two out of three ain't bad.
Hey who was that ecentric Aussie kneeboarder(kneelo, for the Aussies) dude that died in Indo some years ago....anybody....anybody? Peter Crawford
Me in La Jolla, taken by Joe Ewing... This is a cool photo I took from my old restaurant. It is a double rain bow. The first rainbow ends right on top of the Scripps Pier, and the second rainbow is directly in the lineup at Blacks... I called this one: PotS of Gold I love this one too. It is a photo I took of the old SS Monte Carlo that wrecked on Coronado during the prohibition. It has been burried in front of the Hotel Del ever since. I had heard that it gets exposed during large El Nino years, so a few years ago, when southern CA went tripple overhead for a month straight, I knew it was the time to go check it out... Its fickle, but the surf breaks right out in front of it on good steep south swells. Artifical reefs anyone?
In and of themselves, they're not such bad things. It's the addiction to them that frightens me. Like you said, everything in moderation. Zach... was just in La Jolla last week. It was FLAT. People were saying it was the flattest they'd ever seen it. Meanwhile, back in Dirty Jerzy, it was breaking jetty-to-jetty.... or so I'm told.
Damn, that sucks.... Usually blacks will do its thing even on a flat day, but the La Jolla reefs are like sunset cliffs. They take a medium size swell to even wake up at all... Thats crazy though... not too many flat weeks in La Jolla usually.
