well i leave for basic on monday and i havent gotten to surf in 2 weeks, the ocean has boned me from having the greatest pleasure the week before i leave which is the only thing i wanted in the world before i go, but the few weeks before were amazing even if the waves werent perfect and the winds off shore, getting to surf was a blessing. Still the next 47 weeks are gonna be tough as shiit so u.s military please send me somewhere good after basic and ait school. PLEEASE!
Thank you for your service. The waves will be there when you are done with basic, and you'll have a little time before ait. Good luck on getting stationed some place good. I have a son in Afghanistan now. No waves there, but he's in the 7th group so his next several "tours" will be Central or South America.
Good luck and thanks for your sacrifice bro. Boot camp is for Marines and basic is for army and other branches. So I assume your going army. Im a combat vet marine and I only got to surf twice during my 8 year enlistment, but surfing was waiting for me once I got my honorable dc. Your a badass for making this commitment, and you will be a better person for it. The USMC saved my life. I was surfing on 9-11 and saw the smoke from the towers from the lineup. I was headed nowhere, and decided to get payback and change my life. It was extremely difficult but ultimately awesome. Good luck and thanks for standing up for your country.
i appreciate that, and i dont have much time between basic and ait, my schools in fl but has a 58% fail rate so im not gonna risk take any breaks to surf instead of study, and what branch? had a cousin leave afghanistan a few months ago. annd no dune surfing?

Army SF. He's an 18 Delta. He hates when I brag on him. He is stationed out of Eglin AFB in Fla with the 7th Group. No dune surfing, but he did pick up a Potatonator to surf some Florida swell when he had the chance and there was swell...
Good luck. It is good to focus on your training, but if you do get the chance to surf in FL you should go for it (even if you have to borrow a board, bum a ride to the break, etc.). Nothing like a surf session to destress, clear your head, and recharge the body and mind. There is nothing wrong with doing what you can to get stationed near great surf even if that isn't the best thing for your "military career." I was in the Navy and made getting stationed in Hawaii one of my top priorities. You should also keep an eye out and your ear to the ground for other guys and gals in your unit and sister units at your duty station who surf, enlisteds and officers. Military rank isn't as important in the line up as it is on shore and the more surfers you know, the more opportunities you will have to surf (especially if you're deployed overseas).
That's badass. There maybe some waist high waves Thursday, depending on where you live. Your making a good decision. There will be some bad but won't outweigh the good. USMC 0351 '92-98. EOD is high speed. I too worried before I left about how much surf I'd miss while enjoying my stay at Recruit Training. I'm sure once you get there more "immediate" considerations will ascend your internal priorities list, lets put it that way.
va.waves? - thank you for your service. Good luck and I hope you get stationed somewhere warm with waves aplenty. I think you've mentioned it before but that's probably one of the coolest things I've ever read on this forum. NJSHRED should hoist you onto his shoulders and carry you to the beach.
When my son graduated high school, recruiters were calling day and nite. I told them it would be a cold day in hell before they got their hands on him, and to quit calling. We'll stick around here for when the Canucks come pouring over the border to steal our Mexicans.
When I was in the navy, there was this Canadian Forces guy doing an exchange tour with the US Navy who used to say to us yanks, "Don't make us come down there and kick your ass again." (Jokingly referring to the War of 1812 when Canada was part of the British Empire)
i remember when i left for basic i surfed hurricane irene and left stoked a few days later. i take it your going to ft. lost in the woods for basic right we had a lot of eod guys in my company.
