...when considering calling out from work? I usually say 4ft and up and semi-clean to call out, BUT, tomorrow's looking like the best bet for the next few days. I'm also nervous with Memorial Day approaching, I'd like to get in as much as possible before touron and flat spell season. I have plenty of sick time, and use my vacation time in the fall, so for tomorrow...to work or not to work?

GO SURF! Work will still be there when you're done, but don't think about it at all while in the water, best to not feel guilty about it either.

No set line for me. Sometimes, you just need to surf - I've called in to go surf thigh-high waves on a log.

If you have plenty of PTO, DO IT!

I'm generally glad my work doesn't abide by the traditional 9-5 since I can pretty much surf whenever I want. The down side is sometimes, like last week and this week, I see nothing but work.

Well that settles it then, think my mind is made up...even if I come back tan friday my bosses will just break my balls...the pollen count has been pretty high up here, sometimes I get headaches. Thank you for your support gentlemen.

Am I not seeing something? It looks like it's going to be waist high in Jersey tomorrow. It'll be fun at the right tide and spot, but I don't think it's a "bang in" day.

2-4 in RI tomorrow, winds outta the SW...kinda sloppy for most of the state but a couple spots stay pretty clean...just jonesin' and had a short sesh friday but I need a little more before i lose hope for the summer.

*and i have 2 weeks of PTO, usually never call out when I'm actually sick for situations like these, and I dont get sick that much in general.

I called in Sick 2 Fridays ago for a Victory at Sea Day and just sat and looked at the water. It was still better than work. If you don't abuse it, your bosses, 99% of the time, will let it slide.

as a manager i would say take the day if you have PTO thats what its there for. you won't be any use anyway since all you will have on your mind is how you're missing it.
As a surfer i try to only play hooky for solid chest high and bigger ground swells. anything else i'll get a session in the morning or evening and still get a days work in. I save the time for September through November. can't you do a half day?

I suppose I could do a half day...about an hour away, but I could always bring the dog w/ me and stay till dark.

I think a more appropriate question is what is the line during each season. I'm sure stomach high and clean during late July is a far different call from stomach high and clean in mid may

its a half day at most kinda swell. get there at dawn surf a few hours get a sandwich and drive back. do you have to be dishonest with your boss on why you need some time? can't you tell him/her that you just need the morning?

A great technique is to fake throw up in your hand and run to the bathroom in the office shortly after breakfast/coffee time when everyone gets there in the morning. NO ONE will want you staying the rest of the day and you'll have completed CYA'd.

An awesome day of work still sucks compared to a crappy day of surfing....unless your a pro surfer.

Yeah, I could be honest, and save the blatant disregard for something more worthwhile...or I could just show up to work in my least favorite pair of pants, put in an hour, and then sh*t myself...the smell and the stain would leave little room for disbelief, and i could be in the water by 12.
