We make kombucha tea. Full of natural bacteria and probiotics. Great for the gut.

It taste like lambic beer, which is delicious IMO. Lactobacillus will keep you regular. So funky!

Psysillium husk is the main active ingredient in metamucil. I could take the whole bottle and I don't really notice any difference.

You get a tolerance to fiber intake. I could eat a half a pound of prunes and wouldn't notice the next day. I'm already really regular, like it's the first thing I do every morning. I can't even imagine not being regular after being that way for years now.

There are people that if they eat a few prunes or dried apricots they are about to crap their pants. That probably means their diet isn't that great.

I'd say there's really no harm in taking a fiber supplement. If it makes that big of a difference in your bowel movements though you might want to consider getting more fiber naturally, meaning eating better healthier foods.

Nothing worse than a dawl patrol sesh in the winter, fully suited, and you start paddling out before it hits you... I've literally paddled in sweating, pale as a ghost, in the middle of winter, clinching to keep from brown flushing my suit. Only happened once, thank god it was before sunrise. I buried my turtle eggs and paddled back out. That was a sick day too.

I was looking into this last week... I was pretty convinced I was going to try it out, but this just sealed the deal... Sold... Nothing worse than not being 'regular' and feeling bloated.. Especially after waking up for a dawn patrol session.

You can do this and it's probably a pretty good idea. You can also change your diet to mainly fruits, vegetables and nuts.

....How can I say this nicely?

I was always "regular" but my consistency was not always regular. I started eating only fruits, nuts and veggies during the day and then some chicken or fish for dinner, red meat sparingly and then...

..... How can I say this nicely?

    Snakes. Long, brown snakes.

I've noticed slow but steady weight loss without any additional exercise but my energy levels have been up and I never get the urge to pass out after lunch anymore.

I started looking into this because a lady I work with is currently fighting cancer so I researched cancer fighting diets and found a bunch of stuff promoting fruits and veggies. Right after that I found something comparing intestine lengths of herbivores and carnivores. Herbivore's intestines are about 4x the length of their torso, carnivore's intestines are about 2x the length of their torso. A carnivore eats meat and then expels it much faster after the nutrients are taken out. Humans, omnivores, can eat meat but once digested it stays in your system and begins to rot. By the time it gets to your colon you're basically taking in waste products.

I went vegan years ago,(accept for 1/2+1/2in my coffee), and let me tell you that the first month some strange things came out several times a day.
if you want to be regular cut out the meat and cheese.
    ClemsonSurf says it well.
here's a book I read that explained a lot for the reason to go veg. easy to read with a lot of kick ass recipes that help make the transition off of meat easier. and some good humor in it too.

I've mentioned plenty times before that I was a strict vegetarian for 13 years or so and only gave it up because I never lost a craving for seafood.

I eat predominantly vegetarian and include some sort of seafood in at least 4 meals/week. I've never had a problem with regularity. Everyone I know who is a self-professed avid carnivore has the worst digestive problems.

And I don't mean that trendy "vegetarian" that all the kids like to call themselves when all they eat is bread and cheese. I eat lots of fruit, veggies, nuts and plant based proteins.

BTW, there is nothing bad about eating seafood as long as it's fresh and local. Seafood protein is easily digested and absorbed.

I don't think it is good for the body to only/mostly eat meat. That much animal protein would definitely stop you up fast. I love meat, but I also know there is a healthy balance. I limit fatty meats to 1-2 days a week. The rest of the time, I stick to poultry or fish for animal protein. Fish is a very healthy thing to consume. They are full of good oils and fat.

a cup o Costa Rican coffe opens up the window of opportunity for me. wide open. I used to bring back 50 kilos but now go to Ticoshopping.com to get my fix. 8 half kilos for 88 bucks. it's cheaper than fetching it myself but a ot less fun.

+1 I stick to mostly Fish / Chicken for meat, i'll have the occassional pork chop / rib, steak or burger, but very rarely. Eating lots of fruit is the trick if you want to stay regular without some weirdo hippie crap like becoming a vegan

    FiberOne cereal
    Oatmeal
    Beans

Same effect as Psyllium Husk, but tastier.

Trying really hard to go vegetarian with the goal of being vegan at some point. Im finding it really difficult to eat right on the go with limited options and a crazy work schedule. I usually take the psyllium husk to try and offset my sugar intake and it works a lot of the time....do not however mix up fiber powder and fiber laxative powder. I have made that mistake for the both of us.

Thanks for the post... I went out and got some Pysillium Husk Powder yesterday, and it seems to be working great.
I've never been a health nut. I eat what I want, when I want... But I hurt my back in last summer and was out of commission for a while. With out any physical activity and being that I'm in my 30's, I got out of shape for the 1st time in my life. I'm getting back to normal, but it's slower than I expected.
    Getting old sucks!

hey nynj, I know we've had our differences, but I gotta say in your 30's is not old. I've always been somewhat health conscious and tried to eat well, but sometimes ate what I wanted. I felt like i hit my peak at 39. then I scorpioned on a late take off dredger and broke my back. out of work and surf for 3 months. then almost cut my finger off on a table saw after, and out off water for another 3 months. all that down time gave me time to read, and i was sick and tired of being sick and tired. read some books on benefits of goin veg and gave it a shot. after about 2 months I really felt a difference and it gave me new life. my recovery from long days of surfing and recovery from injuries is quicker than before. you are what you eat, and if you want to keep surfing, surfing good, a good diet will keep you going long after your 40. and don't think goin veg will make you skinny and weak.
