When's the best time to go to costa rica to score some good waves? and is there any good camps to go to
Optimal time . . . is summer when storms are born in the inter tropical convergence zone and head out into the Pacific.
keep an eye on - http://www.rovercam.comyou can get good waves any season, but the late spring and early summer get big. I hear this is a great place to stay with guided tours to the spots http://www.lomasurfclub.com/index.html I've stayed just up the road from there and it looks very nice.
cant help but promote myself here...check us out at www.surfcosta.com and at www.myspace.com/surfcostarob fall can have some bigger surf being that its hurricane season and all, but if you talk to anyone who has been to the pacific coast they will tell you the surf is pretty consistant. We are in esterillos - which is about 15 minutes from Jaco. if you are serious shoot me an email/msg and maybe we can work something out. thanks, rob rvb@surfocsta.com
Went Aug 18th-28, scoredddd some serious head- 2+ Overhead consistently the whole ten days. That was my 3rd time there and we caught such great waves the whole time. I have a lot of knowledge about the area if u wanna hit me up i could def fill you in on some background. ie: places to stay, eat, chill, things to do, places to surf, people to look out for, etc...
I stayed in Tamarindo, rented a small SUV and traveled up and down the west coast during Dec-Jan. All spots were breaking consistently. As for boards, there's plenty of places to rent in Tamarindo. I actually saw the exact same Walden I left back in the states. Highlights were Witch's Rock, Avellanas, Playa Negra (heavy) and Playa Grande.
