Looking for opinions on the shapers in NJ. Haven't lived here too long so never got a board here. I know there's a few that have a solid rep. I want to get a couple of new short boards. So anyone that has had some magic shorty's shaped for them, please let me know. Thanks
Brian at Greenlight hooked me up with a killer barrel chaser last fall. i love the thing. it not good in much else besides rifling grinders but that's what i wanted. even gave it a nice thick glass job. i would certainly go back to them for another board.
Go to Essence surf. They were one of the first Companies to open up in Northern NJ. They will shape you that magic stick for under $400.
+1 My buddy who shapes there just made 2 for me. He does great custom work. They are up near the Wayne area, I can give you his contact info if you are interested.
brian wynn. heritage in OC carries his stuff. he's a god guy and knows his stuff. pm me if you want his contact info, if your serious and want something custom. its not much different in cost off the rack.
Where are you located. There is probably a shaper nearby. Brian Wynn - Sommers Point / Atlantic City Tom Eadon - Order through Derf at IslandStyleSurf.com Heritage - Ocean City/Margate/Sea Isle City Mahady Surfboards - Wall Chaize Surfboards - Asbury Park Essence Surf - Totowa Gallery Surfboards - Fair Haven (shameless self promotion) Soul Tree - Red Bank Rozbern - Eatontown I'm sure I'm missing some others, but those are the guys I know who are well established.
My buddy ordered a custom board from Greenlight in Squan about 5 weeks ago... He should be getting it soon. They said a 4-6 week turnaround. However, they mentioned that they don't always do custom orders... depends on how busy they are. With that said, my buddy said the guys over there were awesome and nothing but helpful. He's pretty stoked for the new board to come in.
First, where are you located in Jersey? Surfline just did a feature on local NJ shapers in the past month or so, and there's definitely some good info there (might be shapers south of LBI. kinda forget though). I just ordered a board from Dan Callaghan - DCal Surfboards. Hes located outside of Atlantic City. So far its been a great experience talking with him about what i want, designs, some special features, etc. Now just waiting for the board.
I drive from NH down to NJ every so often to get a board from Chris Chaize. Very we'll made & solid. I'm on my third & it is my favorite board that I've ever ridden!!!
