Do you get your new custom surfboards for free? If not then you know that the premium handmade crafts from the best shapers can be pricey. Oftentimes, if you want to try a new model or even a new shaper you are forced to buy a brand new board. But what if you could sample the models of the very best shapers in the world for a fraction of the price? Would you be willing to use a service that would provide these premium sleds in excellent working condition? Boards would be shipped to any address in the USA. The price would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $130-$150 (this would include around 8 days of USE and all shipping).

In addition to sampling the latest models or trying a new shaper, this would serve other purposes as well. Perhaps a swell is coming and your current quiver doesn’t have an appropriate board. Maybe you are going on a trip and will be surfing waves you normally don’t get to surf. Whatever the case may be, how likely you would be to use this service?

Sell the farm, quit your day job! This is the ticket! Surfing 8 days a week!

Please tell me this is some school project and you're not serious.

Hate to say it, but not very likely. 8 days is a short window to be guaranteed swell and adequate time on the board to justify the cost. I could see using this for traveling though. What would be the turn around time from clicking the order button to seeing the board arrive?

Probably never, but maybe if it were $10/month rather than $130-$150 in one shot.

Would you have the option to put the rental cost towards the cost of buying the board? If not, this idea is worthless.

That's the only way this would work

yes, if you dell in love with it and wanted to keep it the rental cost would be deducted from the regular retail value of the board.

I still would never pay $150 for a board that I "might" like. I would much rather research, pay full retail, play with the board for a month or so and sell it at a $200 loss if I hated it. Part of the fun is getting to know the board and having it click. That could never happen in 8 days.

Sounds like a decent business model, you may want to look for some creative shipping options to keep the price a little lower. It's just so overhead-heavy you'd probably have to start on a fairly large scale.

Pretty cool idea, though. Keep working on it!
