umm yeah. I don't know where you are. But we've had quite a few chest high barreling days up here this summer. You can't get shacked in mush and I was multiple times. It didn't get bad until recently

You could have surfed every day in the last 2 months other than maybe 10 days here and there, this was in Maryland. That's not saying the waves were great but they were there if you wanted them. I did notice a complete lack of any power or size on even the best days.

Complaining about a lack of waves in san diego. I wish I had that problem. Give me some waist high almost everyday for a month in August. I'll be happy.

I know it's still early but I'm getting a bad vibe about this hurricane season. There is nothing happening right now or for the forecastable future. It looks likely that the first hurricane won't spin up until Sept.

    Interesting info,

You'll notice that 4 out of 5 of those storms tracked into the Caribbean where they're not going to do any of us any good. I'm less interested in how many hurricanes there are and more interested in how many rideable waves they make. The shape of the high out in the Atlantic currently and for most of the summer has been somewhat oblong, situated on a slightly SW -NE axis which has been a significant reason why waves have been in short supply. Fla has probably been the best place to be and New England the worst. I know that the shape of the high will change, but until it does any storm that forms will probably track south.

Another thing is that in the not to distant future Greenland is going to become green again, and until that happens there is going to be a lot of cold water dripping into the N Atlantic. The ocean stayed fairly cold late into the spring this year and has stayed on the cool side most of the summer. I've had my 3/2 on more than my 1 ml so far. It's been a relatively cool Aug too. I don't know how that will affect tropical storms or even if it will, but the cooler the water the less fuel for storms.

    I hope I'm wrong.

my August wave count is pretty damn good. you just have to get lucky down south in OBX. also had some lingering swell in VB that has been fun. Its about time for some storms Though...

Surfing's a strange thing. It's like it's not even a matter of fact.......

People in the relatively same area have all sorts of differring "opinions" on the conditions of the past three months.

Anyone in North Jersey who complains aboot "soft, mush," which I have heard from a few people,.........HA HA your sandbars suck. It feels good to say that to North Jersey people because they had it too well this past winter.......

SW and WSW winds during all the good swells, and excellent sandbars. Left us South Jersey fools in the dark. Even WSW winds when it's blowing 20-50 mph offshore junk it up bad down here. And yes every swell from late December through February had HARD offshores on the clean-up, yes with gusts over 40mph one or two times. Oh Northwest winds how you have foresaken us.

My spot has a high-tide, inside bar that bubs even the weakest of swell. So tuck into that one you North Jersey @#@##@. Yeah ok, it's a bit dumpy and closed-out on some days, but at least it's interesting. 2-3' is b!tchen when you got well-shaped little devils, pitching up and down the beach, in two feet of water. Ya know what it is that I be sayin' ?

And those who say they have gotten two days of decent surf per week know what they are talking aboot. The rest are either trying to be EL BURRO MAS MACHO or don't really surf.

+1, I'm starting to think those who keep crying about how bad it's been, don't really surf, at least not often

    Yeah totally..........

It's kind of cliche and "cool" to complain aboot summer and romaticize winter, right?

Yeah, and it's also very redundant. Like when people around my neck of the woods always complain how hot it is right now. "Man, I don't remember it ever being this hot this time of year!" It's literally the same thing every single year. Or how bout this one, "man, this day took forever, hope tomorrow goes faster", well there are 24hrs in EVERY SINGLE DAY, so not sure why it would be faster / slower, because 24hrs is 24hrs no matter what you do.

I agree with that, BUT this flat spell has been brutal in Rhode island. 2 weeks straight of lake flatness with nothing in sight until maybe tuesday if we luck out.. Just because there are waves where you are doesn't mean it's been the same up here.

Sorry aboot your flat spell. I'll try and do something aboot that for youse guys. But I can only do so much. My powers only seem to work in The Garden State. I'll pray for youse guys.

Hey !! Didn't some of you Rhode Island guys claim Rhode Island was more consistent than Nueve Yersey, like last spring?
