All, I'm aware that this is probably a strange post but I cant seem to find information out there that shines any light on this current situation. My fiance and I are gearing up to get married in Oahu Hawaii where I was born. I've lived in Chicago for several years and recent events have caused me to be concerned about Hawaii waters. Just a few days ago, while all the Miley Cirus media blasted everywhere, Japan dumped an additional 300 tons of radioactive waste into the pacific ocean. Scientists are saying that its going to kill all marine life in the pacific or cause toxicity levels to be off the charts by May 2014. The exact time we are getting married. I do understand the implications of this assessment and my only concern is NOT my wedding by any means. However, I am interested to find out if Hawaii media is talking about this or if anyone has any information regarding this situation. I figured a surfing forum would be a great start in finding this information. If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction. please do so.
Ax Brewengineer, he's the site's resident scientist. For an opposing view, a more conspiracy theory point-of-view, talk to Archy. Oh "ax" is how I say "ask." That's how we do it in the ghetto. Then be prepared, if people respond, for a litany of opinions masquearding as facts.
Actually, I know it's ironic, but a surf predicting website forum is the last place you want to look for information pertaining to substantive matters. And this place has an east coast bias. We only care if Shark Hunter is ever going to find a rideable wave in Rhode Island again. Oh, this is your go to spot to rekindle any supressed feelings concerning America's Civil War and the whole North vs South rivalry in general. Hey, how you feel aboot guns? This is also the east's premiere location for "Double Overhead" surf talk. What's your opinion on chemtrails? That being said, SWELLINFO.COM is your source for all of your wetsuit questions. We know our stuff aboot westuits. Hey, was the surf this summer crappy or good? See, people on here can't even seem to figure that one out, much less knowing aboot nuclear or nu-cu lar waste. Hey, you sure you want to get married? Anyways, Gidget, run..........run far away from this place if you have serious questions..........run..........
Well i figured it was worth a shot. I guess I assumed that people that devote their lives to the water would be the best resource for this kind of information. My bad. Guns? I love em. Just don't have one. Chemtrails? Yes, I believe in all of the crazy conspiracies people make fun of. Except for the zombie apocalypse. Marriage? No not sure...but I don't think anyone ever is. Thanks for the response. On another note, I will be learning to surf while in Hawaii. bahaha
It might sound like I'm messing around, and it sounds a bit cocky, but everything I said is true. I'm serious. And another helpful tip: Always post important questions or things you want seen on weekdays. Weekends are quiet around here and most of the knowledgeable folks are doing "weekend" things. And what happens is your thread will get pushed down the list and Brewengineer might not see it when he comes to work on Mondays(not this Monday, he's off, dude). This place is active on workdays. And only aboot 15-20 % of the site's participants are dedicated to the water. I'm probably being generous with that stat, too. Oh, if you have board questions a lot of people can be helpful here. Oh and wetsuits, did I mention wetsuits? Erock knows stuff aboot fish and water issues but he's been suspiciously absent from here ever since Jenelle Evans got released from jail. That makes me wonder if he scooped-up my gal. I don't know. Gidget, do you watch MTV's TEEN MOM? Man, they just premiered TEEN MOM 3 and I'm not feeling these skanks. Just not feeling them....... Hey, you should come to New Jersey and I'll teach you how to surf. Just leave your fiance in Chicago. Dude, you don't want a mid-western guy. Just so we know, if Civil War was to break-out, who would you side with? The north or the south? Or would you be like Clint Eastwood in The Good, Bad, and the Ugly and just go with the flow of whatever side provided the most benefits at a given point of time? Hey, that's a good answer, Gidget. I like your style. Wow, Jenelle Evans who? I think I'm in love.
Then you shouldn't leave your house, cause no matter where you go someone is out to get you. As for the waste in the pacific, take a couple minutes and search on the forum. It has been discussed every other week. If all you want is conspiracy theory, no need to ask us anything. There are thousands of websites out there to keep you afraid of the world.
It's not a strange request. I teach marine bio and have been in the field for 40 years, also environmental science. The Japan disaster, as a multiple choice, will NOT affect Hawaii as you mentioned. The radiation will settle to the substrate and be taken up in biocycles long before it would reach Hawaii in quantity. What will happen is little bits of radiation over large areas, kind of like the '50s nuclear bomb tests in the Pacific. Those did not destroy Hawaii did they? John
There seems to be a lot of unsubstantiated rumors flying around on the internet regarding the toxic radiation being spilled into the Japan Waters. Spilling large quantities of radiation into the ocean is definitely not good and a topic we should all be looking into thoughtfully, but from what I have seen, there is nothing of striking evidence that we need to be worried about going into the Pacific waters in the US or Hawaii or eating local fish. One pretty image was getting passed around all over the internet with a NOAA logo on it with a description of radiation spread across the Pacific. It turns out this image was actually showing a wave height forecast from the Tsunami for the hours after the Tsunami hit. This just goes to show how easy it is to spread rumors and false information over the internet, and we need think carefully about everything that the social or "real" media is passing to us. Its definitely easy to get freaked out about something like this. The one news, that is substantiated, is the Blue Fin Tuna caught off of California that migrated from Japan showed marked levels of radioactive isotopes - caesium-137 and caesium-134. However, even with the increase, the quantity of radiation doesn't seem to be a great health risk. I wouldnt worry about going in the ocean in Hawaii, but I think I would pass on any fish that I knew was caught off Japan...
Hope you're right, John. Aren't there some islands like Bikini that are still uninhabitable? No info in these links about Hawaii specifically, but the news ain't good for the ocean. http://www.naturalnews.com/041879_Fukushima_water_storage_tanks_radiation_leak.html http://www.naturalnews.com/041800_Fukushima_radiation_leaks_desperation.html
Thanks for the response guys. Just for the record though, I'm not an extremist like a lot of conspiracy buffs are categorized. I'm simply looking for the facts hence why I'm reaching out to the community to know whats really going on. I'm not fearful of the situation but I do care about what I allow my 9 year old to consume while on the island. The reason I feel its important to reach out to specific communities of people is simply because I don't trust main stream media. Period. SO...I do appreciate the thoughtful responses and it does ease my mind a little bit.
Ha. Paddington - If civil war were to break out, I'd pick up a gun....I'd go dooms day preppers on this shiot and book for the hills. Im a lover. Not a fighter.
If TEPCO is admitting to that then it's way worse. Watch this. I've posted it before and will again when necessary.
HEY !! I'm not a cat, I'm a dog. Get it straight, confused Delmarva yankee. And I'm in a self-inflicted jail, not a dungeon. Dungeon's are European and of prior centuries. And there was absolutley nothing insane aboot my postings on this thread. Actually, they were kind of cute. Yo, have you ever seen Bon Jovi's daughter? Not bad with the 'gina. Not bad.
