Could be. Many believe Gulf War Syndrome is linked to so many depleted uranium rounds being used in Desert Storm.
A good habit I learned from an older friend of mine was to flush out the nasal passages routinely after getting out of the water. When you are in the shower right after a session cup your hands and fill them up with as much water as possible. Bury your nose right in the middle of it and inhale (through your nose) as much water as possible. Blow everything out and repeat 3 or 4 times. You might make a bunch of terrible sounds and draw attention if your in a public place at the beach but trust me it works. Not a good way to pick up chicks. I do the same thing every time I am in the shower even if I have not been in the water. Can't tell you the last time I was ill.
I was at all Croatan last week and did my best to keep my head out of the water but it only takes a few drops of that stuff to enter somewhere. Red tide, pollution you name it. I did feel a little queezy in the stomach and my GI was not good. Better off just paddling a few miles and building strength for the upcoming fall/winter surf than surfing in that crap! So glad it hasnt affected Chinco
What did I say about Dang Neck? there no telling what's off the beach there. They're in possession of a lot of beach, from Croatan to Sandbridge. From 88th street to 1st landing and from a little north of CBBT to Diamond Springs rd. I'm sure they're taking great care keeping the waters free pollution. Even VB's fecal forcefield isn't impenetrable. My question is, What would it take to keep you out of the ocean. In Cali they come out from a surf with poot stains all over even tho there's warning signs. . I'm kinda glad I don't get to go to CR any more. with the Fukashima radiation, the floating continent of plastic, and all the unknown crap that can fuggus up. Dieing Sea mammals are a good indication somethings wrong.
This is a great tip for anyone in the water be it the ocean or even a clean 100% non polluted water source (is there such a thing)? Also after a session before going to your car/home I always just let my nose and ears drain by sitting on the beach (or standing) and touching my toes nose toward the ground. Also to top off all the sand restoration projects in our area Rudee's was closed on Tuesday due to a new dredge work in that area. I could only imagine what type of muck is being thrown around and pushing out to the Ocean for us to surf in.
