The Belmar Pro website just announced that Tom Curren will be competing this weekend. Pretty excited to watch one of, hands down, the greatest surfers of all time surf, let alone surf a local break.

Man, braddahs be reincarnating themselves on here like Buddha masters. SI admin brah squashes a caterpillar for stepping outta line, it comes back as a mosquito before an NBA shot clock can go off.

That's tremendous, you guys are fortunate to be able to see Curren there. One of the all-time legends; the guy is amazing.

I surfed with him in OCMD in the mid-80s. Nice quiet guy.

its lame to throw a legend like tom curren into the belmar pro.if it was a big winter swell id be like a kid in a candy store.seeing one of the worlds best having a hard time getting a score in 2ft mush, its pretty depressing, and i feel for those surfers who can beat anybody with the right waves, but when its like that anybody can win.its like watching andy irons get beat by filipe toledo.its just wrong

I think it's cool of him to do a contest like this. I mean, he IS human and all. "Legends" should not above surfing when it's small and mushy, because surfing isn't just about getting 23 footers, it's about getting in the water and having fun as often as possible. He's doing a good thing here, you should be happy that he's not a snob about it and turning his nose up at the idea. It's bringing attention to an otherwise meaningless contest, which my guess will bring money to the area. People shouldn't hold other humans up so highly just because they're really good at something. Respect what they are able to do yes, but they scratch their balls and fart like the rest of us do.

Is there going to be a web cast? That would be something to see.

I read that his son's competed in the Belmar Pro 2 years ago and he was there to watch...I guess he figured if he's going to be there, he might as well have some fun too.

YES !!! Everybody from South Jersey should head up to Belmar, starting tomorrow. He's here already. You might catch him out tomorrow in the horribly small, blown surf at 18th Ave. Hey, how many other chances are you going to get to surf with the sultan of smooth.

If Gov. Christie didn't ban me from the roads, I'd be going there tomorrow fer sure. Cadbury has his limits in driving distance, ya know. Can't overstep my good fortune of surf availibility, as Cadbury sticks local.

Wow, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for people from South Jersey. BELMAR TRIP !! TOMORROW. Totally stoked brus. Hey, can someone get Thomas to sign a Kasser's Vodka bottle for me? Yeah, he had a drinking problem, too. All the greats have.

    Anyways, this is great..........

There's a strong possibility that it wont be 2ft mush.

It's gonna be so sick seeing him. AND he's scheduled for a heat against Dean on Saturday. Jersey legend .vs. a world champ. It's gonna be an incredible heat. You got currens overall amazing style and skill against deans knowledge of the wave and jersey surf in general. Gonna be amazing, and I'll definitely be sure to get plenty of pictures up
