Forecasters are stoned on something or is it "too much" automation of the forecast

Ya the forecasting on this site is wrong more than its correct. You have to cross reference with the NWS and other sites, but we are at the mercy of these gapes because there isn't many detailed surf forecast for the east. Well then you add in the whole Advertisement factor and you realize whats really going on here. That's why I'm looking at a petsmart ad right now?

its a programming bug. The swell goes to 0ft @ 0sec, and this is created a programming problem, instead of saying flat, it showed the max surf height. I"ll get this fixed. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

 

Its right for me about 90% of the time when the forecast is 48 hours away or less.

Dude nantasket is the armpit of the coast..I just take the forecast for that place and add 1-2 feet for other local spots

 

No ones perfect bud. If it is a glitch it will be fixed I'm sure. Most of us check a few sites just to be sure. Would ya rather drive 50 miles or take 5 min to check. At least they are better than the local weather guy. Some technology is better than none.

to bad half you guys are on this checking the reports when there is actually waves and your missing them cause your to busy thinking if the report is right or wrong i dont mind tho keep it up keeps more people out of the water!

 

Hey Administrator, Keep up the good work. This sight is always my first go to. I love the layout of the site, and the fact that, for those flat times that there's an open forum for all sorts of random things. I might need to go somewhere else to confirm certain things or reinforce the accuracy of your report, mainly a walk to the beach to put my own eyes on things, but you're keeping it real by keeping it free, so thanks a million.

 

Why are you dudes so dependant on internet surf forecasts? It's the east coast. We get 98% of our waves from onshore winds associated with various weather systems. So........if the wind starts to blow(South, man, SE, man, blow out of the South, man. Don't go Northeast) the surf should start to pick up.......then again maybe it won't. Then, after said front moves away from your favorite jetty, it should eventually clean up.....then again maybe it won't.

There you go. Hey man, if it's raining on your head and the winds be a blowing, there will probably be some surf......then again maybe there won't.

And congrats SWELLINFO.COM on getting mentioned in The Press of Atlantic City. Not only did SWELLINFO.COM get a mention. They got a BOLDFACED mention. Man, it stuck out from the rest of the article. The sports page did a thang on The Belmar Pro and Jon Coen loves SWELLINFO.COM. SWELLINFO.COM was the official surf forecaster for The Belmar Pro. Though, there seemed to be a discrepancy between the two entities concerning the surf on Friday. But that seems to be a common theme in Jersey. No one can agree if there was(is) waves or not...ever. Tastes Great....Less Filling............

So, stop complaining if you disagree with the surf forecasts. Surfing isn't a science and neither is the ocean. It does what it wants...it does what it wants.....you don't know it...it does what it wants. Surprises, both good and bad, are part of the game. You win some and you lose some. Do you really want to take the mystery out of this whole surfing thang?

this seemed to be a very erratic swell in terms of size. I was out all day at south OCNJ and it was never really much over waist but really clean. Some folks came down from the north end where it was allegedly chest to head but more disorganized. some other dude showed up late in the day and said that AC was 1-2' overhead in the morning. i am taller than the average bloke which maybe skews my view but that is a pretty big variance. generally pretty consistent with the 2-3+ SI forecast.
