I'm headed to pr w the gf later this week and the forecast doesn't look real promising I'll be staying in rincon a majority of the time, but will spend the last night in San Juan and will also have a car. I will have boards and plan to hit the north coast for some 23 footers, but when I get tired of that, what else do you guys recommend checking out? I plan to do the San Sebastian waterfalls, maybe sup for a few hours, and of course a few days of relaxation. Any must sees/must do? Where's that s-t-r-e-t-c-h dude at?
Snorkle Eat- the local cheap food at a 'cafeteria' Usually wilderness picks up some swell Puntas bakery The lighthouse at night Usually it's 22 ft at middles when you get tired. Walk around and check out hobos You'll have fun!
There will be waves somewhere, just gotta look / ask around, if you're in Rincon, stop by Mar Azul Surf Shop and talk to Bobby, he might know where it's working, great place to stay and rent a board too. For food and drink check out Tamboo on Sandy Beach, and there is another place called Flamboyen or something on the same road. Also check Ship Wreck, great mofongo and drinks, and lastly Villa Cofresi, get some Pirate Special coconut drinks, you'll be stoked on those. Good chance you might find a wave in Rincon but if not check Wilderness like others have said. Jobos too. I went in late Oct. and also late April and both times I had enough waves in Rincon to not have to go anywhere really, so you never know, and the forecast didn't look so hot the 1st time, reports are normally way off for there, in my experience at least.
I've had a few flat days in PR, go snorkeling at steps beach, or, if you have time, take one of the day trips out to the little island (I forget the name, but supposed to be rad) do an offshore fishing trip, off shore ain't very far down there, we went on a 23' sea fox, was about $100 a head and we were eating right that night. You can always find a little wave somewhere, rent a log and do some searching.
Desecheo Island.... Great fishing out there. Go to the Bio Luminescent Bay. It's gets the girl's all moist in the pantaloons for some reason....
Yeah there are some rad bioluminescent bays on those islands on the east coast. Also crashboat has some pretty rad snorkeling as well... When I went we had it flat a few days and we did the san sebastian waterfalls, the crazy tower from the bond movie, and some hiking to the top of some mountain. There is plenty to do when the surf is down. I wish I knew about the surf in jobos wilderness area though. I only really surfed around rinccon/aguadilla.
Oh, almost forgot, definitely go to the Sunset Snorkel & Bio-Bay at La Parguera if you have time. It's like 2.5hr drive from Rincon if I recall, but worth it. You can get your surf in the morning and then get a late lunch / early dinner, gotta leave around 12:30-1pm, starts at like 3:30pm and goes till about 8:30pm, you will first do the sunset snorkel and then when the sun goes down you head over to the Bioluminescence Bay for a dip, very cool experience if you've never done one of these before. Afterwards you'll drink several cans of Medalla and you'll eat a couple of home made chicken empanadillas. Good people too, you'll enjoy yourself.
While on the east go to Culebra island and beach it. It's a short ferry ride. Bring the cooler. Snorkel on the far right beach. If on west head south cool little places along the way. Everything else was mentioned. Good job guys.
Yeah what he said. The snorkeling at steps is pretty sick. And that little island (Desecheo) has some awesome scuba.. but you have to take a charter, and they do not let you ON the island to the best of my knowledge. The only things living there are goats and other animals. There is one small cement bunker thing on it. but no one lives there. Go skateboarding in town. Last time I was there there was an indoor skatepark, but it never opened. I could see in from a window and it looked good. Maybe its open now, or gone altogether. And don't forget to eat a ton of food. Pinchos, empanadas and the ceviche.
Speaking of skateboarding, there is an awesome skate park in aguadilla right adjacent to the waterpark. Head toward the airport and before the airport on your left you will see it. It's free and I think they rent boards across the street at a shop. The only stipulation is they make you wear a helmet but its a fricking rad park with full bowls, all concrete smooth as silk. Definately snokel steps. Definately hit camuy cavens. I think the caverns are only open on Sundays now and you have to wear a helmet there too because someone took some rocks to the head. If it's flat in rincon, go to wilderness. Even if the report says flat, just go check it. There is swell wrap there so it's often underforecast. If its flat there work your way around to surfers beach and then jobos or middles. Have fun!
