Man, you guys know it's next to never that Spicoli heads to the break only to turn around and split. It's happened two days in a row. 3ft at 9s with optimal tide and swell/wind direction apparently amounts to nothing now. And this is the only day that resembles any bumps on the chart all week. So we're gonna get through September with nothing in NE? I can't be taking a 3k mile trip every two weeks to score but not gonna make it past 3wks without a wave to be had. Is this our penance for the unreal spring we had?
Anyone want to head to SF soon? It's going off there and in the PNW. Cheap ass flights to NC and Jax for 4ft. It's that bad that I'm contemplating flying for 4ft. "You guys are giving me nothing here." - Ron Burgundy at ESPN Studios Sportscenter audition, 1979
In my neck o' the woods today's bump isn't until the afternoon. Perfect timing for a post-work day session. I'll toss on the ole 40/39 Bodyglove suit to keep warm. All the heavy wetsuit talk was reminding me of "A Christmas Story" when young Randy gets bundled up to walk to school. Classic. Picture a kid riding a surfboard without the ability to put his arms down.
More like another couple months. My 3/2 just went on and not wearing the 5/4 Drylock unless it's sub-42 or so. I'll put good gloves and boots on with the 3/2 chest zip and also got a cap to cover the ears.
Either you're a total stud, or you have a nice 3/2. Mine is a piece of shart. It's one of the $89 ones that I bought used for way less than that. Plus, we already have icebergs forming way up here in southern ME. 36 degrees this morning. Yeah baby. I have a great 4/3 to get me through fall, possibly early winter, then we bust out the 5.5/4.5 RC E-bomb for the arctic conditions. Did anyone else hear that if you wear tighty-whities under your wetsuit it's like adding 1 mil?
+1.. Your so right. I started wearing wool under my booties last winter and it is amazing!! I think I had mentioned it in a couple threads to see if others were doing it... Come on man, all the cool kids are doing it
What the frack. Ideal tide. Ideal swell. Ideal wind direction at 6mph. 2.5ft at 9s says the buoys. Yet nary a bump to even get a takeoff on with an 88ft tree from NZ with 1623L of float. I'm either booking another flight to SoCal for 2-3 wks from now (if I can stand waiting) or I'm going to Oak Bluffs and renting MV's WaveJet by the hour til I lose my shirt. I did what PB&J said to do. Every day I go to the breaks to see. Apparently, 3ft of swell for several days supplemented by 9-11s (which is LONG for us) is not ample juice to stir the drink. It would be one thing if the reports didn't all say 2-4ft for days. I can handle the truth. But don't BS me SI, MSW, Solspot, Surf-forecast, Windguru, et al. Even Surfline has been full of schitt lately and they lowball the tits off Pamela Anderson in her prime. You guys remember not too long ago when Spicoli's stoke was firing daily like a Chilean barrell factory. That stoke stands for everything that's right with charging anything in sight. Key word: sight. Tough to charge waves when you can't see them. And I'm not talking about night waves because you can see the shadows of those and if you're familiar with the break you know where to place yourself for takeoff. I'm not gonna get a log. I'm not gonna get a SUP. I've got a quiver full of fine SB sticks that are quite appropriate for NE surf. I've persevered to the point where you give me a shin-high wave and I'll get a takeoff on it with my latest pickup, the 5'6 batwing tail 34L five box beauty. Knee-high? I'm nailing a ride on a 5'11 HP. But when I get toenail-high swell, I can't do a damn thing with that. So should I aspire to be the best Carver boarder I can be? Because it's been 4.5 months since there was more than a shadow of local swell. I can't even find a wave to charge down in Rhodey right now. Maine? Maybe by the time they open the ferry to NS next spring. We've got Koki's score report of 55+ waves across a 5 hour sesh. I believe that man and am truly happy for him. However, WHERE'S THE BEEF IN NE?!?! Anyone who's had more than 3 "good" days since June at their local spot has no voice here when it comes to ranting. This Groundhog Day of an existence is caging me and you know I can't be caged. Bringing wahine out for a lesson last weekend in the 1.5ft then consummating the sesh after bought me a couple days of stoke. But here we are on Wednesday and the reports have been money for days yet not a fart from Poseidon to be seen here in Emass. By all means, keep reporting scores if you get em and I'll celebrate them with you since it keeps the faith that worldwide flatness is not a possibility. But for real brahs, if you have scored even semi-regularly at your area breaks the last couple months, not a single breath of angst may emanate from your mouthpieces. It's not bad at all dude, not moisture wicking so you can't even tell they're there. Emass I feel you're pain, but since you mentioned the specific number there were about 3 decent days since August..the little 2 day bump from Gabby, and then that random windswell this past sunday. And the friday before that looked decent from my office, when that little humberto pulse showed up. Anything overhead, no. But decent and fun.
It's been rough man. But i see some chest high clean swells in the forecast for next week out here. If it holds up i'll be out there all day
