So it wasnt much, but I scored waist to chest, consistent conditions yesterday and was able to pull out the full bag of tricks on the 5'8 sharpeye disco. Much needed shortboarding, thurster day. snaps, hacks, reverses.... not a barrel in sight, but it was for sure enough to get my stoke on. Swell is around all weekend too. hitting it again in a few hours when the tide cooperates. Burgers and Brew fest first.

Ahhh... sweet relief. it was no hurricane swell, but like I said in my "worried"? post, although 3-5 more feet of swell would have been ideal, all a brother wants is enough juice to get the shortboard out and throw some turns. damn@! been sick of fishing... with my rod or my quad. ya know?

P.S. If there is ever a sting ray fishing comp, I would win hands down. Last week, Me and my buddy caught 11 sting rays in 30 minutes... i mean, seriously???? Pain in the arse to get that hook back too. &^%$ers are mean!

I've heard this a lot and tried it after a drunken night of gigging. I ended up throwing the pan away. It was a disgusting slimy mess.

    Please elaborate.

Slice off the wings. Skin them. Bread and fry. Taste just like scallop. Only tried it with skate. I'm not sure what kind of rays your catching down there

Yeah, they serve it as scallops at te all you can eat Chinese buffet in bluffton. Like he said, clip the wings and cookie cut the meat. My Vietnamese investor told me that too

The "sea scallops" that are going to be on your plate at most restaurants are actually punched skate.

Start making your excuses for why you can't do what your supposed to be doing on Mon and especially Tues.

Is there a phantom swell rolling in Mon or Tues that is off my radar? Went out again today and it was fun, but its looking like minimal leftovers tomorrow and back to lake status monday.

Friday was pretty messy here. Lots of close outs, though there was some size to it. Yesterday was clean and waist high, but I thought the waves were too gentle. It was dying off by 3, and I am guessing today will be fairly weak.

Friday here was choppy, windblown, and disorganized. Went out at lunchtime, had no luck, but got a good workout. Pretty much windy and choppy this entire weekend. Water temps cooling off. Never quite got as warm as last summer. Mostly in the low 70s now.

I've had some funky tasting as well as tasteless scallops - particularly at those Chinese buffet joints. Figured they were "skate scallops". Diving off the west coast we would get the large rock scallops. Now they were good.

If skate wings actually resemble the scallop in flavor, I may need to start picking some up. They are dirt cheap to buy at the docks. I never knew how to prepare them, nor did they look appetizing.

Pretty sure skate is used for imitation crab meat too.

Sorry about that, I wasn't paying attention to your locale. OBX and points north are going to have some waves the next couple of days.

The fibers in skate wing "scallops" goes across... in scallops they go up and down. I don't don't like them. I'd rather eat dogfish or sea robin.

Usually if I'm frying up skate, there is dog fish and sea robin in there too. I make po boys with them.

Down here in the dirty souff the "scallops" are made from sour tasting rays punched out with a cookie cutter. The best scallops I ever had were north of Falmouth. On the north side of the bridge heading north back into the Cape. Magic.

The big swell turned out to be waist to stomach high lines with lots of mullet, a few tarpon, and an occasional shark. Fall is upon us.l
