I disagree beaner. This isn't going to be a major upwelling event (cold water). This system will be hanging off the Mid Atlantic a bit, so we wont get that S/SW current, that always makes things way colder than they should be for the time of year. Water temps have been warming up nicely the last couple weeks. Looks like in Delmarva/NJ were hanging in the mid 60's. Down in OBX, near 80!!
Excuses! Alright, I need some help with excuses. 4 weeks ago during Andrea, I just called and said "I was going to make it in" and that was that. But now I am potentially changing companies and I have 16 hrs of vacation left. What should I say that is worthy? Should I just say I am surfing for the day and so be it? the trick is to tell the truth in a way that sounds worthy of a day off... how about: "something unexpected came up, and I need to take a personal day off".

good point micah. as for excuses, if you're leaving the company why does it matter? Regardless just say you're taking off because you need to use your vacation time. It's really none of their concern as to why you're taking off. Start off apologizing for the late request and for putting them in this situation... I put in a request last night at 830pm and my manager was down to give me off...depends on the relationship you have with your boss too.
