Will this be the storm that brings beautiful groomed waves to the Gulf coast? Some of the best surf I have seen have been on those rare occasions that a strong storm sends a pulse in the Gulf. This summer has been a virtual shutout for the wave starved gulfsters. Really hoping this will bring some fun.
would be awsome to get more waves on the gulf coast, last week here in sarasota we had some of the best waves ive seen down here in a while, was actually able to get three turns to the beach for once
Once in early December a tropical storm stalled just north of the Yucatan straights. Sanibel island was going off - perfect two to three foot overhead lines kinda rolling towards the north. Very rippeable, with 4 guys out. The tide had come up 3 feet above normal so we were surfing over trees that were laying on the beach. A wipeout would have sucked but it was so perfect that you could miss the branches sticking out of the water without a lot of trouble. Keep your fingers crossed. This is the time of year stuff just pops up out of nowhere.
Yeah DP...were you around for Rita? Had one of my buds from SoCal visiting that week and we had 3 days in a row that looked like an artificial wave machine pumping sets. He spent that first day out just giggling at the endless supply of perfection.
You mean this day? http://www.gulfster.com/IndexFiles/92105Rita.html I may or may not have been there, i've been through so many that they all kinda run together, Floyd was the first Hurricane swell I can remember ever paddling out in, after that it's just one after another, oh and Bill stands out in recent memory too.
Yeah. Those pics are good but they just do not convey the feel of that day. Just relentless good rides and so glassy.
Yeah the pics never do it justice, but those give you an idea of how good it really can get with the right storm system FL.Surfdog, you're on the list, head west my friend, head west....
Who could forget? Sure hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon. Waves may have been great, but at what cost?
Hurricanes are always a bit of guilty pleasure. Sandy was great for the eastern coast for surf and we know how that finished up. The ideal storm is a cat 5 that spins out in the Atlantic for weeks and then just turns Northeast and goes away without landfall. Anyone have a connection with the gov entities that control all the weather events? Order one up please.
Finally. You ready DPSUP! I'm off ALL WEEKEND WHOOOOOOOOO! Thinking about Venice Sat. Should be sick.
this should be good heading up to the panhandle for some more size on saturday, then lido or venice on sunday, and lido again monday
Is there a chance this storm or low pressure system could create waves in the mid Atlantic region similar to TS Andrea earlier this year? or too far inland and far less likelihood of any decent chest high surf?
I think you will find better conditions where you are than further south. Maybe Upham or Indian Rocks.
