I was taking fish oil for almost three years before my doctor urged me to stop. According to 2011 study by the US Cancer Institute, men who take fish oil have a 71% higher risk to develop prostate cancer than those who don't take fish oil. You'll find plenty of articles on this, just as you'll find plenty of articles that says it's a bunch of bull. Either way, I'm not taking that chance. Enjoy!

I take fish oil daily with my GNC multi pack, Mega Man Joint. I trashed my body skateboarding and what not. Taking these vitamins makes a huge difference in how I feel. I had arthritic knees by 27 (one knee had a total reconstruction) so I'm always looking for ways to relieve joint pain. No narcotic solutions for this guy. Take care of your body's folks because they're not replaceable like skateboard decks.

Didn't see this while writing. That's f*cked. Go figure. Story of my life. I wonder if mercury and radiation have any link to that. The farm (earth) is failing. What food or water isn't tainted anymore?

yeah, everything is tainted and dangerous these days... that's why the average lifespan has been increasing moderately over the course of time. speaking of mercury - the Japanese are the worlds largest concentration of centurions (ppl who are at least 100 years old) and they contribute their long lives largely to diet of fish and vegetables. maybe ingesting mercury correlates to living a long life...

I have heard good things about fish oil. I just take a multivitamin that may have some fish oil in it, but I would consult a doctor or nutritionist for a more reliable opinion.

I has been widely shown that multi vitamins have little to no health benefit. The body is not able to absorb the vitamins in these capsules. The majority of the pill you take comes right out the other side.

The idea that because a carrot is healthy and contains a lot of beta carotene, therefore isolating beta carotene into a pill will have the same effect is flawed thinking. Food science is still in its infancy and the way various vitamins and nutrients in a particular type food interact to create a positive health benefit is not understood.

Feel free to waste your money on vitamins. Most likely any positive effects you are feeling is just a placebo.

to get actual nutrients your body can use eat lots of fruits, vegetables and wild caught fish. its as easy as that.

How bout yous guys all eat healthy & whole foods, stay hydrated daily, surf a real damn lot and keep bodyweight low, manage stress, and get laid on a regular basis. Save all your duckets by not buying any snake oils and you'll be able to support this aforementioned existence. Especially if you stay away from booze and butts. $10+ per pack of cigs in MA!! Wow!!

Keep it simple. Live clean and healthy. Your genetics already have decided quite a bit of your destiny, but you can change some of it. No magic pill, just do what you're supposed to. And surf a real damn lot. Ponce de Leon did.

Yep surfing will keep you young! Leave the GNC to the weighlifting dudes who can't put their arms down.

I'm making an assumption here but most of the Japanese population probably does not eat your grocery store species of fish like tuna, swordfish, etc. All these are slow growing and have higher mercury content. If we moved our fish consumption to smaller schooling fish that the larger fish are feeding you could get the same benefits of a fish diet without the worries of contamination.

Stop taking the supplements. They are worthless, if you are doing it for heart health.
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22968891

You are better off spending some money on fish and eating that a couple times a week. Much more effective.

    Here is the cancer study:
    http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2013/07/09/jnci.djt174.abstract

I think you have to eat a lot of Omega 3 containing foods to get to the level found in the study. I still believe in a diet that incorporates fish at least a couple times a week.
As for the Japanese, they don't just eat fish all the time. Their diets are lighter in general, leading to a greatly reduced risk of heart disease (the #1 killer). Obesity is our main problem in the USA.

Brah, I've got nearly two decades of education and anecdotal experience in the application and practice of every possible weight training and diet regimen out there. Yet I don't even need to lift anymore, and haven't in four months. I charge every day there's swell and hit the Carver whether there's swell or not. Joint health has never been better, physique looks like I'm still lifting plenty, and well-being is very high. I'm not anti-weights now, but there's too many people out there that think lifting weights is everything and have no focus on getting functional activity in something like surfing.

You beat me to it. Portion control, fresh fruits/veggies/lean meats, and balanced diet will do way more than any pill you can buy.

The Carver is a skateboard designed to give the feel of surfing a wave and have a unique ability to generate speed by pumping, even up hills (not saying other boards can't do this, but Carvers excel at this). I own one and like it a lot, as obviously does EMS, and many other SI members. For more info:
    http://carverskateboards.com/

There have also been previous SI threads discussing Carvers. You probably already know this, but can find these discussions using the forum search feature.

I agree with everyone who recommends a balanced diet of whole foods and superfoods ( garlic, lime, hot peppers, etc.) that are packed with high levels of nutrients that can be easily absorbed by the body.

Another thing to consider when discussing fish oil: The harvesting of krill and other base species to manufacture fish oil is doing a lot of harm to the natural balance of the oceanic ecosystem. These are the organisms that support the whole food chain. Once they are diminished, the rest of the species dependent on them as a primary food source will face collapse.

Eat lots of splittail snapper. This will keep you healthy and in shape to surf all day, err day.
