Here is a story about a guy (former boxer) who was out surfing and fought off a shark attack. In the photo it shows his board with the jaw marks in it. Hopefully this guy takes that $50 given to him and invests in another board. Course the bite marks may have increased the value of that lawn ornament he was riding! You would think that everyone that lives on the islands and surfs would have some fairly decent equipment. I mean C'mon, its not like their out just piddling around and its summer in Daytona Beach! I have literally seen boards used as decorations at flea markets in better shape, or even ones they cut up to make chairs and stuff!!!
So a guy gets attacked by a shark, grabs the fin, punches the crap out of it, and survives with barely a scratch. The few first takeaways on this forum: -Probably didn't make any money as a boxer -What's he doing surfing such a weathered board in Hawaii Who cares, the guy just punched his way out of a shark attack on the shark's turf. This guy has a story for the ages.
right board for conditions Finally a thread worth responding to. All this talk about boards on this site is a joke. I lived in HI 20 yrs and most guys ride beater boards 10x better than the rest of non-pro mainland guys. Its time in the water w quality waves that makes them so good. You can't expect a perfect board surfing reef and rock bottom and direct sun. Spending top dollar to buy new boards to ride 2ft wind chop 70 percent of the time is a joke. More surfers should focus on THEIR ability and wave knowledge.
