I'm thinking about a surf trip to costa rica (nosara has been on my mind) in the spring. I'd like to do a package from one of the surf schools. i'm interested in focusing on moving from long boarding on small waves to riding shorter boards and bigger waves. If you have any recommendations or experiences that would be great.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention. . . surf simply was my first choice they look great but was wondering if there is any thing that's good but a little less money. Is surf simply worth extra package price? Thanks Yankee did you go to surf simply? how was it?

I have done surf simply. Agreed, best surf instruction I've ever had. Going again. In Nosara there are a bunch of places that will take you out in the water . . . Safari Surf School, Corky's . . . not the same instruction level.

Check out witches rock surf camp in tamarindo, if you haven't. I did the advanced surf tour about 5 yrs ago. It seemed to me that they did the surf instruction thing pretty well. Folks in the program seemed pretty satisfied. They were pretty flexible, have a selection of boards, and if you wanted to switch out of the instruction and go tour midweek you could (if staff thought you'd kill yourself they'd recommend against.) Not cheap, in a town, but seems to be cheaper than simply surf. A pretty solid operation run by a surfer for surfers. It was a while ago though, things change.

i would also suggest SURF SIMPLY . it is expensive but the other ones aren't cheap either and it really seems worth it. Fantastic instruction and they will push you to your next level....

+1 on Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo. I did the advanced tour and my wife did the "intermediate lessons". Both were great, and a couple of days I went with the intermediate lesson crew and had a blast too. There are a variety of waves near there, so if you're looking to step down to fun/shortboarding they would be able to recommend the right gear and take you to the right spots. It isn't in Nosara, but we had a great time, the staff is friendly, and the lessons are great.
