I surf in VB and the OBX. In mid December I want to take a surf trip to New England. I hear there are point breaks up there. Can anyone direct me to a good spot? I prefer a nice left but rights are cool too.

Pretty Good rights at Seven Presidents Beach, Long Branch, NJ. It's an hour from NYC, to help u out. And i hear LBI (Long Beach Island, NJ) is good, same with Manasquan, NJ

set the cruise control and don't slow down until you get to Narraganset, RI. Lots of right points up there and matunack has a nice left hander. Warning - if there isn't a decent south swell, you aren't going to get any waves in RI on the points. They turn off completely if the swell is under 3 foot. If thats the case drive another 2-3 hours out to Cape Cod for beachies that pick up more swell.

No, NJ sucks don't come here I, I, I mean go there... but if you are looking for points in NJ, the cove on sandy hook can get good but like stated above you need a solid swell for it to turn on... I would go up to RI or Mass for the point breaks that you are looking for... make sure there will be swell when you plan this or you will just be wasting a lot of gasoline...

Why would you leave the OBX to come to the coldness of the NE?

what the hell are you talking about? longbranch cranks in the winter, and lbi is super exposed and gets real big and good. not only that, if winds change up, or the direction gets a little off, somewhere in lbi will be good. give me a break, bud.

    mOtion732,

I guess you don't catch on too quickly...I was being sarcastic...No 5hit some of those places are good. I live there I know....I don't need some random person on here blabbing about certain spots.....It was more like they suck = go somewhere else. But that was obviously way over your head......Bud!

I know of a secret spot if there is a south swell and the wind is from the North or NE. It's called Long Island. No one surfs there so there are barrelling A frame's you can have all to yourself...

oh and there's no traffic up there either so you could probly get there quick...

without local knowledge, you'll get nowhere in long branch. find yourself at the pumphouse or something with the hundreds of other idiots that don't know anywhere else to go. as far as lbi goes, it's pretty spread out.

Without local knowledge.....yes i would have to agree somewhat....just for reference tho Pumphouse is not in Long Branch. I surf there...If you are a local you should know that too.....And you are referring to Phillips with the hundreds of people surfing...... not Pumphouse. At Pumphouse some people can even get down the jetty. So you never see kooks there.

i was being loose with long branch as well as pumphouse. i know it's deal. i tend to lump that whole stretch from whitehall to phillips together as the pumphouse, unless i'm being specific. and i know the phillips jetty gets the most packed.they tend to flock there and darlington. at philips, most of the kooks sit too far inside to really be a problem, unless it's one of those late summer days where you're just going to get dropped in on regardless. too bad the middle peak there hasn't been working either.
