Yes, I think the Red Cross is a good place to start especially for short term help: https://www.redcross.org/donate/index.jsp?donateStep=2&itemId=prod4650031
My younger brother, age 15, is an aspiring musician. He recently released an EP. The cost is $5, and until 11pm on the 12th he will be donating all proceeds of the EP sales to Philippine relief. Here is a link to his website http://www.evanbutton.com/store/products/evan-button-ep-electronic/ Also, check him out on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/EvanButton
I've been in touch with Steve Hess of Secret Spot Surf Shop via Facebook. He lives there now. check with him on there. I also contacted the Filipino Church in Norfug to see if they had some donation boxes I could place at my clients and parts store. Nothing from either as to how or what to donate. I'm sure blankets and tarps would be the best things to give, but usually just cash.
I also did Red Cross. 90% of what you donate actually goes to the people who need it. Here's a list of other orgs: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=1659
