Pump-that's amazing I wouldn't have guessed that low. Dig the rockets on yours surfsolo. And my fellow Deal(I mean Belmar) aficionado, dude, you're dead on...I can't believe I forgot to mention that. #SaltLife #AllDayEveryDay
glad your excited about your new truck, getting a new ride is always fun.may it take you to many good times!
I think I just sold my original surf wagon. A 75 VW Westy. I posted a pick of it in the post your rides forum a while back. It has spent some days Street Camping at WB, feeding the meter 10 bucks a day while the meter man just shrugged. Put it on CL on a whim last night. A guy is coming out today. Still have a 71 Westy. Yeah Yeah I'm a dirty hippie.
We have a 77 Caprice Classic rag top. Cherry red with a white interior. Runs like a top. Lack of American Manufacturing is the heart of every single one of America's problems, from Obama Care to mentally unstable people shooting guns in movie theatres and schools. The second we sold out those capabilities, and the lifestyles and the infrastructure they built and maintained, we began 'The Great Decline.' In Newtown CT there used to be one of the country's best mental health facilities. Then, they closed the doors due to lack of budget. Then, some mentally unstable kid in Newtown shoots up a school. This is what we face when we have a deficit and not a surplus. And you don't build a surplus by outsourcing labor or importing parts.
Brah! you know it! on serious note- I may be selling my truck- 2008 Nissan Frontier crew cab extended bed- in pristine condition- $13k if anyone is interested- you can usually see it parked at Belmar- its got a huge SaltLife stick over the whole back window- cant miss it. #SaltLife
Finally... Someone that gets it. I hear you loud and clear Manisses. It's sad to think that the Golden Age is over. I don't know where we are going as a nation... And I just don't get how people talk so much sh*t without appreciating the reality of our country's economic situation. Just take a look around.... We're a mess, and it's all because of the outsourcing and importing. It's all cause of globalization. Simply put, America is declining rapidly because of our foolish policies... just take a look at the other countries that are insular, make their own goods and technology, and don't outsource. The first two obvious success stories that come to mind are the rising economic powerhouses of Argentina and North Korea. Btw... Nice Caprice, but I'm a bit partial to BMW'S myself.
Buying American made cars won't fix this. You aren't going to change the way Detroit does business. They decided long ago that they can't compete without outsourcing heavily. And they are right. My company sells to the American automotive industry, and many of the parts are manufactured in the USA. However, my company is German owned. We also have components made in many other countries, which end up in our end product. If you want to build the best of something, it is important to focus on your best skills. GM/Ford/Chrysler are good at assembling engines and vehicles. Other components, like ECU's, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, require massive amounts of resources to test, design, and manufacture. It is more cost effective to buy from the pros in those different sectors. Companies that have decades of experience producing that specific part. The outcome of all this, is increased quality and durability. That is why we have many vehicles lasting well over 100k miles today. That is why I say buy the car you like. There is a 95% chance that your purchase, no matter where the manufacturer is from, will keep many Americans employed.
We are a mess because of the free market, something many Americans hold so dear. The free market mentality allows manufacturers to import unlimited amount of resources from countries with little to no labor laws. It is easy to point out the problem, but quite difficult to find a solution. Eliminate the free market, and you slip closer to the totalitarian governmental structure most Americans despise. Allow the free market to rule itself, and you see more importation and outsourcing. All this has little to do with the original post about buying American made cars. If everyone in this country only purchased American made cars, hundreds of thousands of Americans would be out on the street with no way to feed their families. My little plant alone would have to lay off 1000 people. And what does this solve? You ruin so many people's lives, yet you are still funneling money to other countries indirectly by owning a car full of foreign components. BTW, I just read the last sentence. Totally missed the sarcasm.
We would never know if a free market worked as it has never been tried. GVT regulation and 'regulatory capture' destroy incentives for new business to form and if they try, the fees for licenses and other such nonsense really stack the odds in the established big business's favor. Not just for auto industries, but for almost all industries. I understand that some may disagree.
Sorry man, I work in the automotive industry. It is very unregulated, when it comes to manufacturing. The only place the government steps in is mainly safety and emissions regulations, but I think these are very necessary. Big business thrives in the automotive sector, just because they are free to do what they like. I don't really have a problem with it, but that did mess Detroit up nicely.
what about that guy Tucker in the 40's or 50's he had a great plan, but because it he didn't build in planned obsolesce, they ran him out of town, so maybe not GVT regulation, but the old boys club in collusion with GVT creating a monopolistic stranglehold on innovation is clear and obvious and there is this: http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/I...pt-American-Suzuki-to-stop-selling-cars-in-US "American Suzuki says it will stop selling cars in the United States as part of its bankruptcy reorganization. American Suzuki points to poor sales, exchange rates, and high regulatory costs for its decision to stop selling cars in the US." oh and by the way, Cosby nephew: you dont have a surf wagon, you have a soccer milf mobile.
This thread started by a guy who was just stoked on his new rig. Love the SI forum. Just love it. PS - When we won the big war, we quite literally did it with will, smarts, and an unbelievable manufacturing capability. Ask the Japanese if they thought our women could make our 'tin can' ships while our men fought. They didn't know we had Rosie The Riveter. After Pearl Harbor they were practically lighting up the victory cigars. Ask the Germans what they thought about the Americans tanks and jeeps and planes. Strange, now the Japanese and Germans are the ones who are importing manufactured goods to us. I guess they learned the lesson we forgot. More than anything, those jobs brought stability and pride to our citizens, they brought peace and prosperity and growth to our cities and towns, and they brought private health care and a nice pension system. I can't quite remember what it was called... OH WAIT! That's right, it was called "The American Way."
I thought the American way was killing foreigners to steal their natural resources, guess I haven't been paying attention...My uncle was a Marine and then worked for United Fruit in Guatemala in the 50's, What was he doing all that time I wonder
Once they dug out of the rubble after WWII, Japan and Germany built shiny new modern factories that were decades ahead of the factories we built 20 years earlier. As long as the engineering is correct, closer tolerances and better controls will create a higher quality end product. In the 70's a quarter turn of a Buick steering wheel would be play in the wheel and barely endanger a bike on the side of the road. That same turn in Mercedes or BMW would pull a u-turn. They didn't call 'em land yachts for nothin
Why does your longboard stick way out of the trunk of a 2000 Maxima? My surf wagon is a 1998 Toyota Corolla with 255,000 miles on it and with the seats folded down my 9'2" longboard fits completely inside with the trunk SHUT. And gets 35 mpg. Aren't Maximas bigger than Corollas?
Now that is surely the quote of the thread! I agree MIS everytime is see an Exterra there is a chic driving it with rugrats in the back seat.
