This is kind of my problem with the OP. He should ask these questions but to people/peers who know him and can give him advice based on their knwoledge of him. Like you said the right place depends on him as person and we don't know EastCoastBoast other than his SI persona. This is why based on his screen name I suggested many pages back he become a male prostitute. You know Duece Bigalow style!

thats not a complaint you oaf. its a statement of my situation. and i tried that i went to a school where there was no surf and a good educational program. and i didn't like it. i didn't like not being able to do something i love. something that when everything feels wrong in my life i can do that can still put a smile on my face. i don't care what degree i get hell i don't even know what i want major in. I'm just trying to get by in life. pay my taxes and put food on the table. theres this huge thing with our society that declares people unsuccessful if they don't get a degree from a good school which is false. my dad went to community college and makes more than my mom who went to usd. so riddle me that. and i do ask them but they don't give two sh!ts what i do along as its something other than couch potatoeing it up. and yeah I'm new to the SI life if ya haven't noticed

dude, adult life means that some times you have to do things you don't like to do. better accept that now. keep your eye and the prize of having a good life near the water but understand that you may have to make sacrifices to get and stay there.

Yeah man I thought it was a pretty cool sentiment. Whatever you do dude enjoy it and keep a postive frame of mind and you'll be good to go. There's some aspects of my life I'm not happy with(student loan debt, meaningless job, 1 hr away from the closest break), but there's so many more that I am extremely happy about and grateful for. You'll figure it out, just remember that life is a gift, being able to exist is pretty f**king radical, in the true sense of the word. Surf as much as you can, be outside as much as you can, cherish your family, and the rest will fall into place.

Join the military and get the gi bill. Then go to college in your mid 20's. You'll appreciate college more probably get better grades and have life experience to help you pick a career. Enlistment lasts only a few years so if you hate it you won't suffer long and the coasties and navy have a stations in Hawaii and San Diego. Get it young man. I wish I had done just that. I bailed on the coasties and could have gone in as an officer. I regret not doing it.

From seeking advice to a heated discussion about the seccesion of the south/slavery.. Holy Sh*t, only on swellinfo.

    California/School.
If the military, I have friends that have done both Navy and Coast Guard. Coast Guard had hands down better duty stations. One guy was stationed at Cape Cod, Charleston, Puerto Rico, Huntington Beach.

PJB you are wayy out there sometimes, but this is pure gold.

babybabygrand and makeitstop do sound like smart enough guys. But even well spoken people can be ignorant. These guys, in my opinion, are very much so.

This is what I mean by your generation being so immature. You have to make sacrafices in life my generation did it my fathers generation did it, my grandfathers did it. You think my Grandfather wanted to go trapse around Europe with Nazi's shooting at him? Hell no but that is what the country needed and they were men. Nowdays we have dumba$$ protest groups that rally at soliders funerals, thank God we passed a law in NC Sunday that prohibits it 2 hours before and after the funeral. Law is named for that Westboro Church that pulls this sh!t. Wah Wah I can't surf while getting my education. What do you think is goign to happen when you get a job? You think you are going to be a pro durfer or work in the industry so you get to be in the water daily, I doubt it.

Well this is the good that you want to get to work, pay your taxes and be responsible. I applaud that. No one here has said you have to get a fancy degree. I could have gone to UNC, Wake Forest, Duke or a few other shcools I applied to but Campbell University fit my needs and what I wanted to do. Now I make great money, get full bebefits paid by my employer and have 4 weeks off a year that I can use to surf. My buddy bounced around to different schools "finding himself" only to quit 10 credit hours short of a degree. Now he works a decent job but makes just around average wages, lives at the beach and only gets to surf on weekends caus ehis company has no paid leave. You tell me who got the better end of that stick? I would rather pay my dues when I am young and broke then later once I have a good job and time on my hands, I can fully enjoy the fruits of my labors. But maybe that is just how us old foggies see it.

And to your ealrier comment that I am bitter about the wrong choices I have made, no way I would change a single thing, I got a great wife, awesome son, get to surf, buy guitars, play golf and travel as I please and I'm only 38 so I think I'm set. And when I retire at 57 like my broker's analysis shows I can I will look back on the 4 measly years I spent in college away form the surf as a drop in the bucket as I then travel and surf as I please.

    Correction........I'm wayyyyyy out there. I think. I don't know.

OC & SC 83, you're ok, dude...... you savvy real good. Just like Ponyboy and Cherry Valance. Cherry was a soc chick with a big vagina. Johhny Cade cut her man, but it was purely self-defense.

Last night I stayed up until 3:00 am flipping through the music channels on my cable TV. Oh man, I was hearing sh!t I haven't heard in years. Heard two Talking Heads songs I like, and now Mr. Gaffer posts another of their songs. See, stuff like this freaks me out because I don't know what it means. Nothing like singing Psycho Killer at 2:00 am. Coincidences scare me.......

Hey, I dig when you guys argue and I'm not involved. Sometimes it's nice to be a spectator. But could you guys use more paragraphs - it's easier to read. Thanks dudes.

Oh man, did I get the goods this afternoon.....low tide, slightly overcast.....55 F !!! And semi-glassy, gutless two-footers rolling on down. Yeah, man. For some reason it seemed even more lonely there today. No one around, which is typical, but it seemed extra desolate today. I was so scared.......

Ain't this the month when all them Cape Cod sharks head to their summer homes in Jacksonville.........

To quote my favorite PCP-influenced Californian highway driver, Rodney King....

    "Can't we all get along"

Feathers are getting a little too ruffled over a surf predictin' website forum spat. Yo, chill, man, chill. Why I never heard such insults..........

I wish Rcarter was my daddy..........
