Surely many here have surfed after smoking those
filter less cigs but anyone here surfed drunk? We did last
week, not sure we'd recommend it.

    Told this one before but...

Micronesia...surfing 3ft island all morning with my friends at a spot where the take off section is dry at low tide...fun wave but horrible pointbreak because its fast, sectiony, and super shallow. Good swell direction no crowd because other spots were epic. Towards afternoon the boys started showing up checking it from the cliff. We had our fill so we went to the store picked up a case to shoot the breeze in the parking lot. Handed out a few but the tide dropped to death levels and it started firing. No one wanted to drink. One friend drank a beer and paddled back out leaving my other buddy and I to crush what must of been 18 beers.

We did the work watching the crew get shacked and decided we had to go back out. Normally I would avoid the parking lot pre-surf because the boys would offer beers, that you had to drink quick to avoid getting offered another one because surfing buzzed over fire coral is never a good idea...until that day.

Luckily after 4+ hours in the morning we had it wired and didn't damage ourselves. Choosing to surf the end section that had a bit more water... maybe a foot and a half. My buddy and I were geeking every way we took off because falling meant bleeding and cackling like mad men on the paddle back out after every successful attempt. Couldn't do turns to save my life but ducking into the barrel was still do-able. Memorable session but not sure I would do it again.

In college we used to throw a Heineken mini keg beyond the outer sets, it would float there. Catch a wave paddle back out to the mini keg and catch another outside set.

Oh SH*T!!!! Gasolina!!! hahaha. My dad would always say, "we need to bring these back to the states and start selling them". I remember drinking a couple of those and a few beers and suring jobos on xmas day. Got hassled by a young local kid and wanted to rip his head off. Instead I went in and said forget this 2 foot mush and kept drinking.

But yes to all, surfing after a couple drinks can make or break a session. If its big, keep it under 3. If its small, keep it over 3. That's my rule of thumb at least.

Outer Banks loggies in the summer at my mother in law's in Southern Shores...my wife yells at me all the time for it, but three or four buddies and a paddle out on waist high clean surf with girlies out surfing in bikinis...that's some memorable summer stuff. Would not go knocking back beers or anything else in 'caine swell, though I have, and with poor results. Bigger surf and smaller boards=closer to that critical balance and reaction time threshold. Got whacked in the eye orbit at Mirlo Beach (Rodanthe) in October like 3 years ago by the nose of my mini gun on a 3+ OH day and was pretty lit (like 8 fast beers lit) when i paddled out. Had a concussion. Not cool. But light buzz summer loggias? Def recommended.

was in baja, drank a little too much on the beach... waves got good and i got psyched. jumped in the water, in my drunken stupor forgot my keys were in my pocket. Lost the keys, had to hitch a ride back to CA, get a spare key made in SD so i could hitch a ride back to mex and get my stuff #epicfail

6 years ago this would have amused me with stories from the grand ol days. Now looking back it reminds me how lame I was. It still happens on occasion, just unintentionally. Ya know the days your tinkering around in the shop or on the truck/car/van throwin a few back and the waves come up. No choice but to paddle out. Surf like an idiot then come in and tell all your boys how epic of a session it was.

Not gonna say I've never had a few and paddled out on a smaller day, but I wouldn't do it on larger days. Early morning surf does feel great after a night of drinking!

One or two beers before surfing is no big deal. Done that many times and still had great sessions. Even better is a pain killer if you happen to have one. Not that I condone them for regular usage, but you'll feel really loose out there. I wouldn't get drunk on purpose and then go out though.

    Playa Remanso, Nicaragua.

Great day of waning 4ft @ 19 second swell, uncrowded, late in the day. Up rolls a van with a stack of brand new looking boards, and six/seven guys get out, cackling in what sounds like an Aussie accent. They grab their boards and start to rush towards the water. 'Sh*t, here comes team shred. Game over,' I thought. (I was still learning then... still am now).

These dudes were flailing about like Chimps gone overboard. Once I got a closer look, I realized that
    A) They had no idea what they were doing.
    B) They were English, not Aussie.
    C) they were all really drunk.

They're screaming about shredding it up, egging each other on, and a big set comes through. I took off on a big left and almost ran one guy over... His head just bobbed there motionless, like a cork with googlie eyes glued to it.

One chubby bast*rd had scratched for the horizon like there was cupcakes waiting for him at the end of it. When I got back out, I realized that he had paddled too far over, towards the rip which takes you right into the rocks. Before long he was fighting for his life; genius even took his leash off and tried to go solo. I paddled towards Chubbs Mcgee, realizing he needs help, and by the time I get to him he is standing on some very uncomfortable rocks, stumbling and falling into the water, yelling and blubbering, board washing around on the rocks.

On the beach, he asked one of his buds to get his backpack, so that he could have a soda. His friend says "why can't you get your own backpack?"

Chubbs Mcgee just broke down, blithering, crying, yelling: "Because I just almost f*ckin drowned, you f*ckin twit! Can someone PLEASE get me my backpack so I can have a f*ckin drink!" Tears streaming down his face. His friends fell silent and gave him the bag.

I don't think he'll ever surf drunk again.

Buzzed no problem, DRUNK (not amateur drunk, but like 12-18 beers drunk) no f'ing way, did it once and it was a complete disaster... I laughed my ass off the entire time, and i'm still here to tell the story, but seriously it's really not safe, don't do it.

surfed the next morning after going out for my birthday the night before and a bottle of So. Co. and JD later. puked all night, woke up still completely bombed, stumbled to the beach and made a complete ass of myself. standing up was next to impossible. to make it even worse there was a decent swell rolling through after pretty painful flat spell. i was pissed at myself for a solid week over that one.

this summer. i was about 10 beers deep at about 2pm ( we started at 8am and i was blackout by 9pm.....) and i went out with one of the chicks we were staying with to try to teach her how to surf. it was small and junky but still fun on the right wave. needless to say, that was the most a55 ive grabbed by "accident" in a long time hahaha. it was a weird but awesome feeling popping up and having almost no control. it sure made it a lot more fun than it was. laughed my ass underwater every time i fell too. i had way too much fun in ****e waves

Its sometime serious while you are doing surfing and dunked, due to this the surfer may get lost while surfing so its dangerous for those who do like this.
so do surf and stay safe.
