Just received a message that the bridge has been out for a week and won't reopen for a few few months? Any word from anyone down there? I was hoping to catch some Buxton swell.

they said they may open it this weekend, early next week,or if it needs more work months.thanks to the environmentalist groups for using all their political power to prevent the building of a new bridge for the past several years

andrewk529 IS one of those environmentalists. He thinks plovers and oyster catchers are more important than the OBX economy.

andrew, you should be looking at this as a win. Less evil humans on the beach!

those "plover and oyster catchers" are a huge part of OBX economy. You kill the environment up there, you kill all the jobs that revolve around it. Humans can't just build **** where ever we want. There are consequences to every action and the con's out weigh the pro's on a new bridge.

The ocean is a delicate balance. You knock off one "little" species and the whole ecosystem could be thrown outta whack. Just be careful what you wish for…..

You do know that Hatteras Island has been occupied by humans for hundreds of years right? Native Americans also lived there way before the white man as well. The piping plover is not even indigenous to Hatteras, so don't even go there. There are plenty of other nesting sites on the east coast.

I found it bs that Andrew started this thread because he wants to surf buxton.i think he wants to start and prime a thread so he can get his stupid argument going again.

I love the southern area of obx and visit several times a year. Great place for a family where the wife loves the beach and hubby and kid love surfing. I wish you guys the best of luck coming up with a solution. If there is anything us "visitors" can do to help please let us know how.

I can't count how many times I told Andrew to go to island free press for info and he returns with 'closed for months' and 'anyone heard anything(?)' and 'I want to go surf buxton.' yeah, right. island free press updates regularly and the bridge could reopen soon after more testing tomorrow

Katherine and Mary lee are far more trustworthy than a lot of those whack jobs. I love the environment too but blues is right. I wonder what would happen if there weren't locals there? Would some corporation take it over? I trust the locals.

Oh that's right, corporations are people...

Are business interests people interests or
    Are people's interests business interests?

Sorry Erock and beachbreak, I was simply curious about the bridge closure. Yes, I think certain areas of the beaches should be closed to vehicles at specific times of the year. No need for another circuitous protracted debate...Honestly, I have not studied the Bonner Bridge issue, so I cannot comment.

Yeah, they dredged up a bunch of sand and squirted it under the legs. They plan on stuffing blocks under after a while. good thing there's no current.

REMEMBER, when crossing, everyone lean towards the west side of the vehicle.
