I went surfing today. I know you guys care aboot that.

The wind picked-up 'round noon. I went out around 1:00. It looked small and crappy. However, once I started paddling out, the outside seemed much further than it appeared. WOW # 1

So once I scratch out there it's much bigger than it looked. I don't know if my spot just had it's moment or what, but it was like a fat 3-5'. WOW # 2

And for some reason it was much cleaner than it appeared from the beach. It was fun. Nice workable rights and a few punchy lefts. WOW # 3

And that damn seal was out again. WOW # 4. The dude spooks me out, man. I mean he's cool and everything, but this is the second time I've seen him in three weeks. He sits there aboot twenty yards diagonally to my south. When I took a left and paddled back out, if he was right in front of me, he swam back to his measured twenty yard distance. Strange dude.

So, is he good luck? Will he lure sharks to come in for a visit? I mean I'm out there by my lonesome. My area tends to produce travelers, and dudes who only go out when it's primo. Unless there's some mysto sandbar elsewhere that I don't know nor care aboot.

Today it appeared that the dude had seaweed on his head. I saw a patch of green. He just sits there and looks at me. Like Eddie used to stare at Frasier Crane. I don't know what's going on.

Pjb- similar experience up here with waves...spot really started to get goin at sunset - very unfortunate. I guess sea life can be strange, I'd guess it was either warning you or lookin out for you.

Maybe its a she, and you have an admirer. Celtic legends speak of selkies - seals who were actually mermaids.

Saw one up close for the first time at Assateaque last year. I think my brain was two steps ahead of my eyes because I just blurted out "SEAL!" like I saw a shark. Dude was about ten feet away just checkin me out with those big ass eyes. My reaction cracked me up ......You'd have thought I'd seen Bigfoot or damn alien.

Encountered lots of these dudes in SD county. They are "usually" harmless, unless they are hunting/eating. Surfed PB point many years ago and this guy was chilling right in the impact zone after takeoff. He would duck underwater everytime you would be coming down the line. He was there for about 45 minutes. He would not move. He was just checking us out from above the surface. Then all the sudden he emerged with a huge fish in his mouth. Looked like a Halibut or something. And the next time I came down the line, He squeeled at me with a very, very angry tone. and he didnt budge. I actually had to bail over the back because I realized he wasn't moving. He went from chilling, to straight wild and crazy seal mode. Makes sense, but the way he looked at me and the noises he made definitely made me think he was ready to throw down if I made him lose that fish or interfered with his lunch.

I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Please explain.

What, you got something against drugs? Occy did drugs. So did Andy Irons. Tom Curren is an alcoholic. Kelly Slater is addicted to competition(proving he's better than you) and his vanity. Bud Llamas is addicted to marijuana.

If you have something against drugs, then you aren't a real surfer. Real surfers do drugs. However, I'm actually sober, instantkarma. Actually, Dec. 18 was my four year anniversary of my last arrest. Nobody even got me anything.

Oh what kind of karma do you get from being mean? OMG, you're so mean.

Anyways.......I HAVE A QUESTION. Hey you fisher guys........Ok, so obviously a seal is kicking it at my spot. The water is aboot 41 F. What does my boy eat? Are there fish in my area during the winter months? Does he need a wet suit? No really, what does the dude eat and are there fish around here in the winter. I really don't know.

And why does he just sit there and stare at me. And he always stays aboot twenty yards SE of me. He adjusts to keep the distance accurate. I think I'm falling in love with him/her.

My fault, on reading a second time I can see how this can happen. Also, I am comfortable with being mean because I have 4 friends and thats plenty.

Them damn seals eat flounder. Seals and cormorants have be crushing the flounder population...
There's also plenty herring for those furry murderers to eat

Yep... founder, herring, mackerel, squid... but they'll eat just about anything, including lobsters.

Keep an eye out for pups all winter, too. They like to play in the shallow water... like all little groms.

So youse NJNY and LBCrew guys are saying that there's flounder around in the winter? Ok, but don't flounder hang near the bottom? I don't know the ways of the fish, but I think I've heard that before. Erock would be so proud.
And that seal hangs at the surface......just staring at me....so how's he going to get the flounder? I'll bet you he'll be there today.

So we have herring, mackerel and squid off my coast? I thought herring is a nordic viking fish? What they doing around here?

I surfed hard and crazy from 1986. I never saw no seal. None. Then in 2006 I saw my first one in OC, and now I see them every winter....multiple times. And they just sit there and stare at me..........
